We had the good fortune of connecting with Kalauni Gaddis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kalauni, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was very afraid to start my own business with styling and designing clothes. I am still at the beginning of my journey. I want to make people happy and bring my creative visions to reality.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what makes me unique and set apart from others is that I have original thinking and fully embrace who I am as a clothing designer and stylist. I am very proud of how I am able to freehand and design clothes without any type of training. It is ideal and good to learn how to sew properly as far as types of needles, thread, fabrics, following sewing patterns for proper measurements, etc. But I think it’s incredible to be able to dive in without the knowledge and learning as I go. I’m excited to learn more skills as I go. Social media and word of mouth has got me to where I am today with my business. It has not been an easy journey. I overcome the challenges by remaining positive and consistent with my work. I have learned that the more I create, the more I get clarity and my name is put out there for the world to see. Patience is KEY in this industry. And this is only the beginning of my journey. I want the world to know that I am compassionate and great human being. Live your life doing things you love. I never imagined in the 39 years of me living that I would be a designer and stylist. Step out on faith. My brand is about taking risk and being free. Styles by Launi G. stands for being that one designer and stylist who is unforgettable and impactful.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had to do a week long itinerary for a week long trip, I would probably have to tell them about the Beltine. The Beltline has numerous restaurants, outdoor seating, cocktails, site seeing, and just a chill vibe. You can even take walks or rent a scooter which is pretty cool. If we end up at Atlantic Station there’s rooftop vibe. Also off the beltline is a skate park that you can sit at and have a picnic, drinks, food, site see, play board games, etc. There’s a new rooftop called Overstory to check out as well. LOA Rooftop is another dope rooftop vibe for the summer. Let’s add some nature because there plenty of hikes and waterfalls to hit up. One of my favorite restaurants I have experienced is No. 246 in Decatur. Even time to time, I will browse Eventbrite for some events they may be interested in. The High Museum is a nice museum to visit. Restaurant/Lounges are big in Atlanta so I have too many to mention if they want catch a vibe at a lounge. I really enjoy the simple things in life.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like dedicate my Shout Out to all my supporters, believers and inspiring designers. To all the up and coming content creators, visual creators, designers and stylist this is for you all. Never give up on your talent and dreams.
