We had the good fortune of connecting with Savanna Woods and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Savanna, how do you think about risk?
Risk is an integral part of my life and career. I have always felt that life happens outside of your comfort zone. It can be so easy to live life on the safe side and stick with what is known, but I have found that the most rewarding things in life come from taking risks.

My career in itself is a risk. Most people assume, and told me throughout my life, that music and art is a hobby, not a career, but in my heart I knew the only way I would feel fulfilled is by following my passion.

Besides creating my own career through music, my other main passion in life is traveling. I often travel the world by myself. It isn’t always comfortable, but always so incredibly worth it. So much growth and new experiences! …For example, I just flew into London by myself and am on the train through the countryside to begin a UK tour 🙂

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am very proud of everything I have created thus far, and am currently creating. It’s so amazing to be able to express my inner world through music and art and for it to be so well received by the world.

Something that sets me apart in my songwriting and performing is my transparency and authenticity, which has been a big part of my journey. When I was a child I was very self conscious and didn’t feel comfortable expressing my inner world. I was (and am) very sensitive, but wasn’t able to work with it the way that my music has allowed me to do now. Creativity is a beautiful way to work through big feelings and get them “unstuck.”

I feel, and have been told, that this a big reason that people connect with my music and performances. My music isn’t always peppy and happy, but it is real. For people to hear someone’s heart and authenticity expressed, connects on a deeper level and helps others to feel less alone in their own emotions. It also comes through in my performing, because I no longer worry about what people think, or am overly worried or self-conscious, I just let my inner self shine unapologetically.

To get where I am today wasn’t easy, but was a powerful and immensely rewarding journey. The way I overcame my challenges and created the career I have today was by following these lessons:

-Adaptability is the key to success
-Follow your heart and take big risks
-Avoid anxiety by focusing on the current moment: take one step at a time
-Don’t quit 5 minutes before the miracle happens
-Let your authentic light shine, unapologetically

These are the things that I hope are portrayed through my brand and story. I am to live my life to the fullest and radiate love!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am from Stanwood, WA and spend a lot of my time in Skagit Valley. It is surrounded by amazingly beautiful nature and there are a lot of good food places and brewery spots.

Places/towns to visit:
-La Conner
-Anacortes
-Edison
-Downtown Mount Vernon

Just walking around any of these towns is a wonderful way to spend a day. So many cute shops, eateries, etc.

Drink spots to visit:
-Farmstrong
-District Brewing
-Temprate Habits
-Revival Cocktail Lounge
-The Office Tavern
-Terramar

There is live music going on at so many of these spots, so naturally I’d want to take my friend to some live music over a beer and some good food! After going on a little hike in Skagit Valley, or a walk on the beach.

There are so many amazing places to visit that it’s hard to narrow it down… Even just driving around through the farmlands or mountains is an amazing way to spend time. People come from around the country and world for our mountains and tulip fields which bloom every April.

I just love Washington!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate a large part of my success to my parents! They have always been so supportive and encouraging in my journey, no matter where my heart takes me, with music or otherwise. Not to mention my Dad getting me started singing right away, which has allowed me to have almost 30 years of vocal experience! I can’t thank them enough for their love and support.
