We had the good fortune of connecting with Tianna McFarlane and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tianna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was going on vacation summer 2019 and I had a bad cut my knee. I went on the hunt for a bandage that would blend into my skin and not stand out like a sore thumb. After visitng several retail stores I realized that black and brown bandages weren’t a thing yet. It was in that moment that I decided to start my own brand of inclusive bandages. After all, there are purple, yellow, pink and superhero bandages in store! This birthed Heal In Colour, the first Canadian company to make adhesive bandages for black and brown skin.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Heal In Colour is the first Canadian company to make adhesive bandages for black and brown skin. We are most proud of creating an inclusive product that allows Black people to feel confident in theri skin while they heal! It was not easy, the hardest part was finding a manufacturer that wanted to work with us and help us find the perfect material to create our signture shades: Honey, Almond & Chestnut. The lessons we have learned along the way is to never give up. Preserverance will set you a part from others. We want the world to know our mission is to make black and brown bandages the norm!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shanakay Hall. I met Shanakay Hall while working at York University. She was a Website and Multimedia Coordinator and when I mentioned to her that I was going to be starting my own website she immediately offered to help me with my website at a signaficanly reduced cost! Getting a great website made can be expensive and daunting but she made the launch of my brand so smooth and easy by setting up my Shopify store. I strongly believe she plays a big part in my success.
