We had the good fortune of connecting with Thub Chaikaewsakulchai and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Thub, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up immersed in the television culture of the early 2000s, I was exposed to a diverse range of programming, from TV series to Japanese, Thai, and American animations. This early fascination with entertainment sparked a lifelong ambition to pursue a career in the industry. Uncertain of which specific role to pursue, I embarked on a journey through the Fine Art faculty during my bachelor’s degree, majoring in Fine Art Photography. It was here that I delved into various creative assignments, but it was video art that truly ignited my passion and expanded my artistic vision. In this class, I explored the limitless possibilities of storytelling through different mediums within video, from scripting to motion graphics. My interest in narrative structure, inspired by films, blossomed during this time, solidifying my commitment to the creative world. Beyond traditional media, I found inspiration in unconventional sources like skateboard videos, which offered fresh perspectives on storytelling and video editing techniques. These experiences have propelled me to my current role as a video editor in a prominent streaming platform in the USA. Despite the challenges inherent in this competitive field, the joy, fulfillment, and sense of purpose I derive from my work continue to fuel my pursuit of a creative career. My dream is simple yet deeply meaningful: to contribute to the storytelling process, whether through editing or other creative roles, and to continue pushing the boundaries of my craft.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Throughout my life, I’ve followed my passions, which have led me to delve into the realms of video editing. It all started with my fascination for movies and skateboarding videos. The captivating narratives and visual spectacles within them inspired me to explore the art of video editing. I embarked on a journey to learn editing software and unravel the secrets behind crafting compelling videos. It’s been an enriching experience, filled with challenges and growth, yet driven by my love for the craft.

However, this journey wouldn’t have been possible without the support and encouragement of my family and friends. Their positive energy and different perspectives have been instrumental in propelling me forward. I’ve learned that in life, and especially in pursuing a career, one can’t walk alone. Their presence has been a constant source of strength and motivation, guiding me through the twists and turns of this path.

As I ventured further into the professional world, I discovered two indispensable skills for success: patience and listening. These skills have proven invaluable in my role as a video editor. Patience is essential when faced with unexpected feedback or revisions from clients or bosses. It’s about remaining calm and composed, even in challenging situations. Meanwhile, being an attentive listener ensures clear communication and alignment with the visions of those I work with. These are principles I hold dear and strive to embody in my work every day.

In essence, my journey as a video editor has been shaped by passion, support, and the cultivation of essential skills. It’s a journey fueled by a love for storytelling and visual expression, guided by the wisdom of those around me. And as I continue forward, I carry with me the lessons learned and the values instilled, ready to face whatever challenges and opportunities lie ahead.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a resident of Los Angeles, California, I’ve had the privilege of exploring some of the city’s most iconic destinations. When friends visit, I always start by taking them to the Santa Monica Pier and beach – it’s quintessential LA. From there, we venture into the heart of the city, where the options are endless. Places like the Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Broad, and The MOCA offer rich cultural experiences that showcase the city’s vibrant arts scene. And when it comes to dining and nightlife, Thai Town and Korea Town are my go-to spots. From cozy cafes to lively bars, there’s something for everyone, making for unforgettable experiences from morning till night.”

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Aside from my family, my friends, and my professor, there are two particular sources of inspiration for me: movies and skateboard videos that I’ve watched. One notable film is “Her,” directed by Spike Jonze. Its innovative storytelling deeply inspired my creative pursuits. Additionally, there’s the skateboard video “Vans Propeller,” which holds special significance for me as my introduction to high-quality skateboarding footage. Its unique editing style, blending 90s camcorder footage with cinematic shots, left a lasting impression on me. These media consistently spark new ideas for my creative endeavors, especially when I’m feeling uninspired. I often reflect on how these influences have shaped my journey towards a career in creativity.
