Meet Lakia Carpenter | Model / Event Coordinator/ Brand Ambassador / Radio Host

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lakia Carpenter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lakia, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I believe the most important impact I made on my 2 children is to Never Give Up! They have watched some of the obstacles I overcame just to get to where I am now as a model, brand ambassador, and assistant coordinator of events and shows.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Throughout life, we go through trials and tribulations to test our faith and determination… it’s up to us how we perceive to handle it.
I started modeling in 2018 as a freelance model. (1st Show: Nov. 2018: For The Culture: For Us By Us FUBU) It literally started off taking pics for the Mother/Son dance that year, with compliments of how I gave an old school elegant editorial look. I did NOT know anything about walking the runway. So practice made perfect for that part of my lesson once I decided I wanted to walk on the runway.
My decision to become a runway model was due to a previous experience which left me unable to move my body and basically learn all over again how to talk and walk. In 2011, I was hospitalized following PT in the military due to what is known as a mini stroke. It left me unable to move and speak for 2 months, Over the next few months, I attended Physical Therapy/ Speech Therapy, to learn to move and talk again.
Throughout the years, I have been published in multiple magazines, Sophisticated Black Hair Magazine (Hairstylist; Renicka Carswell) , Urban Magazine, etc.
Worked as a model, through Chase Model management, as an Elaboré Hair Model for Bronner Bros 2022- 2023
Assistant Coordinator: Strands Fiber Arts Fashion March 2024
Executive Assistant: Eline’s Day of A Lady 2024
Radio Host at GrindHard Radio

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to The Works area off Chattahoochee Ave in Atlanta. It has Your 3rd Spot for fun and games (including retro ones) Different types of dining options to appease any palate
