We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole & Demetric Sims and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole & Demetric, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We have always loved to host gatherings and enjoy the process of setting up for a good theme. The pandemic increased the amount of outdoor gatherings we held due to everyone being at home and our friends/family started requesting we provide decorations for their themed events. So we decided to begin a business that provides party rental equipment, large vending machines, and themed decor services for all events. It’s double win that this is a business we hope to pass on to our girls some day.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The hardest part of operating our business is having to constantly separate business from our marriage. We are fortunate enough to handle the challenges to which may arise in owning a business as a married couple but it can be challenging at times. My biggest advice to married couples who desire to go into business together would consist of three things: Stay focused on the goal of your business, set aside time for you both without discussing business, and celebrate all investments/gains! It’s important to acknowledge the success of your hard-work together.

We would have to be most proud of ourselves for getting out of our head and take risks or rather follow our dreams in creating family wealth. Sims Vending & Party Rentals is still a small business but is continuously on the rise by accepting more new clients and being consistent with current ones.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I will always have gratitude for my friend and mentor, Keisha Jacobs from Great Vibes Events. She’s helped not only myself personally grow but guided us on the journey to starting the “official” business process. She provided us with an insight into how to be success in the industry through first hand experience, giving advice on the clerical side, and even hired us which gave us our first event!
