We had the good fortune of connecting with Devin Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devin, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” James Baldwin

In order to tackle a problem, we have to first acknowledge that there is one. You can’t solve the bullying epidemic by not talking about it, not educating yourself, not understanding what bullying really is.
Change will never come when you remain silent. We have to say it out loud ‘Bullying is an epidemic that we can’t ignore’ and work towards an effective resolution. I am committed and dedicated to being a part of the positive change in this world. I refuse to just watch an individual hurt knowing I can extend my hand and help.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart is my day does not look like most college students. I have to manage being a college student and I made the Dean’s List which I am proud of because it is not easy. I study hard like most college students but my day is filled from morning to night. And that is why I must balance and include yoga or just taking a walk because it can be overwhelming at times. I am proud that we are in our sixth year of running Race to Speak Up antibullying organization and I am excited when I talk about being a children’s author of Devin Speaks Up! And I also go to schools throughout the states and speak to students and educators. It is rewarding work. The lessons I learn everyday are that life will have its challenges and won’t always go the way you want it to but that’s okay because tomorrow will hopefully be better and if not tomorrow, then the day after tomorrow.
Race to Speak Up is all about empowering and educating and we will continue this mission because it is an important one – one that is close to my heart.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Grand Central Terminal – art is amazing Escape The Room – escape rooms are fun
Junior’s – cheesecake
Sugar Freak – chicken and waffles

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother Ursula who supports me all day, everyday. We are always bouncing ideas off each other and giving each other honest feedback. As busy as my mom is, she always manages to make time for my needs. I know she has my back and that’s means the world to me.
