Meet Holly Nye | Intuitive Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Holly Nye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Holly, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Just Doodles was created organically actually. I have always loved all things creative. I picked up a paint brush in 2020 to just have some fun and immediately realized that I loved it. A new hobby & passion was born. I loved the process of bringing my thoughts, ideas, & emotions to life in a painting or drawing.. So, I started painting on whatever I could find. With the encouragement of friends & family, I took a leap of faith and decided to begin a whole new career path at 52 yrs old. I created Just Doodles on Facebook to share my creations and before I knew it, I had become an Artist with my own small business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am not a professionally trained artist. My approach to painting & especially drawing is intuitive in nature. I like to have fun with it and I’m willing to try to bring your vision alive as well. I love painting landscapes, trees, nature, spiritually inspired pictures as well as pop art and abstract art. I not only paint on canvas but also create art on canvas bags, 12″ vinyl records, ceramics, rocks and magnets, all done by hand with each one being an original. I also created & self published Just A Book of Doodles, A Coloring Book Vol.1 that I am excited about. It’s eclectic and a little psychedelic unlike most coloring books. I created the coloring book with the hopes that it will spark the imagination of others and as a unique self care activity for adults. Plus, who doesn’t like to color? Ultimately, my goal with this business and my art is to spread my own unique brand of love, fun, beauty and happiness to whomever it touches while also demonstrating that you’re never too old to reinvent yourself & find your path with purpose.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love to expose myself to new things, places and people but I’m also a homebody. When I get an opportunity to travel or take a trip, I’m like a tourist. I want to visit historical sights & museums & learn things about the place I’m in. Walks in nature & nature trails are especially inspiring. Supporting local artists, musicians, local markets are always fun and to experience these things with good friends & the ones you love is my idea of a great time. I truly strive to fully embrace and enjoy every experience and opportunity that presents itself.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am so blessed to be surrounded by friends and family who has encouraged & supported me along the way. Shoutout to Owen and Morgan Nye, my 2 amazing sons who inspire me to never stop dreaming. Tunjunika Burney of Tunji’s Creations for guiding & sharing her knowledge of entrepreneurship. Jonathan Burrell, owner of Burrell Cleaning Services, for investing in my dream & sharing his knowledge of business with me. There’s so many more people that it’s too many to list and I am so appreciative to each and every one. I do hope they each know who they are. I could’ve never gotten to this point without their love & support. I will forever be grateful to them all.
