Meet NR | Singer/Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with NR and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi NR, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Growing up, I often heard people express regret about missed opportunities. A quote that has profoundly influenced my perspective is, “In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take.” This quote resonates with me because it reminds me of the importance of seizing opportunities and living without regret. I’ve made it a personal goal to pursue what truly fulfills me in life, rather than giving in to fear and complacency. Coming from a small town in Georgia where many people settle for a dull existence, I strive to be an example of breaking free from limitations. I want to show my family that we are capable of achieving more than what our surroundings might suggest. By pursuing my passions, I’ve experienced a shift in mindset, waking up with purpose, goals, and a determination to overcome obstacles. Despite the challenges, the sacrifices I’ve made don’t feel burdensome because they align with my aspirations. This mindset has been the foundation of my success journey.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My journey in the music industry has been fueled by a strong work ethic and a determination to succeed. Straight out of high school, I pursued my passion by attending Full Sail University, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Recording Arts. This early investment in my education set me apart and opened doors to opportunities in Atlanta’s thriving music scene. Working as a full-time recording engineer at renowned studios like Blueroom, Parhelion, Patchwerk, and Castle Hill Recording Studios, I honed my skills and gained significant experience.
My mother’s insistence on having a backup plan led me to pursue a career as an engineer, providing me with a secure foothold in the music industry. This decision has empowered me to not only work with other artists but also produce, record, mix, and master my own music at a professional level. I firmly believe that self-sufficiency is key to success in the ever-evolving music landscape.
One of my proudest achievements was the release of my debut album, “Before It’s Too Late,” in 2018. It independently charted on Billboard’s R&B Digital Sales chart at #25, validating my belief that anything is attainable with dedication and hard work.
While my journey has had its share of challenges, including the loss of significant people in my life, I’ve learned the importance of perseverance and resilience. Life doesn’t pause for anyone, and I’ve embraced the mantra of pushing forward despite adversity.
I’ve built my brand on the principles of quality over quantity, and my upcoming album showcases my growth and evolution as an artist. I’m excited for listeners to experience the depth and authenticity of my music, reflecting years of dedication and passion. Through ups and downs, I remain focused on preparation and staying true to my artistic vision, eagerly awaiting the moment when my hard work pays off.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For a week-long trip showing I’d immerse them in my world of music creation and industry hustle. We’d kick off the week by diving into a day of writing and recording new music for artists like Layton Greene, Chris Brown, 112, or even my own projects. Since my weeks are packed with studio sessions and meetings, they would be right by my side, experiencing the excitement of the music industry firsthand.
Good food is a good time. Since my friends call me bougie due to my love for fine dining, I’d take them to some upscale restaurants like Hal’s, Chops Lobster Bar, Delbar, and Eight Sushi for unforgettable culinary experiences. However, if they prefer something more budget-friendly, we’d enjoy delicious Mexican food at La Fonda Latina off of Ponce, where the eats are fantastic and easy on the wallet.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate a shoutout to my manager, Slim, a member of the legendary R&B group 112. Slim has been instrumental in paving the way for me, especially when it felt like my paths were reaching dead ends. His support and guidance have been invaluable, especially coming from someone with a lasting career in the music industry. Having his mentorship makes me realize that my journey is unique, and I must embrace the path that God is leading me on. Additionally, I want to recognize the influence and support of my family and friends who have stood by me throughout my journey in the music industry. Their encouragement has been a constant source of motivation and strength.
