We had the good fortune of connecting with Kara Lambert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kara, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?

How to know whether to keep going or giving up is the question of the century. Is it not?

In my opinion, the number one idea related to this topic is that life spares no one. We all have our own adversities that have knocked us down. But how will you know what’s on the other side of the challenge, unless you stick it through? Now that’s not to say you can’t take time to recover. In fact, I think recovery is crucial to returning to the game stronger. One of the best books I have read on the importance of taking the time you need is called, “Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times” by Katherine May.

The overall idea is that everything in life takes “winter” in order to appreciate the “spring,” or the “blooming season.” Take your time on the mat, but then find where you are meant to “bloom,” get in the right seat, and then charge ahead towards your purpose.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

My career consists of three parts, 1 part Interior Design, 1 part Branding/ Graphic Design, and 1 part Illustration. My art is very introspective and when I work with my clients, I want to understand what makes them tick. How can we work together to create a space or tell a story that makes them feel completely seen and usable for their needs? I want my clients to feel proud about their story and present that to the world with confidence.

This life is all about people. “No one will remember what you did, but how you made them feel.” Work hard to make every person you speak to, feel like the most interesting person in the room.

As far as professionally, nothing worth doing is ever easy. This is why not giving up is pivotal. Just focus on taking the next BEST step. Not the whole journey. If someone were to show you the entire road map of your life, with all the hills and valleys mapped out, would you honestly forge ahead? It’s better to focus on the little things which will eventually lead to all the big things.

Be merciless at saying “no” to all the paths that aren’t leading you down the road towards your goal.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Thursday– Downtown Dahlonega and Helton Creek Falls

Friday– A hike in East Palisades to see the Bamboo Forest

Saturday– Float down the Chattahoochee and eat at Citizen Soul

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I have the best family and friends a girl could ask for. They are my support system and have helped guide me through all the adversities of life.

One of the biggest mentors that shaped my life is Elizabeth Herrman. She was my college professor all throughout design school. She wasn’t afraid to give you tough love and pushed everyone to be their best. Many times I didn’t understand her methods, but now looking back, I am forever grateful to her and wouldn’t be who I am in my career without her.
