We had the good fortune of connecting with shye. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi shye., what role has risk played in your life or career?
Pursuing music or art of any kind honestly is a risk. It’s a tough business to carve out a space for yourself in. But I just believe so deeply in myself and what I’m creating that I can’t imagine not doing it. Whether it becomes the biggest thing in the world or it strictly remains this space I get to make art in, where I have this little community of people who listen to it, I’m just grateful to have the outlet and the means to be able to do it. I’m having so much fun with it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve self released 34 songs, including 3 EP’s. My first full length album is on it’s way. I’ve done a full band livestream concert, a short film, countless music videos, and 3 books. I have so much more on the way! I’m grateful beyond measure to be surrounded by remarkably talented friends and creators who have helped me keep my foot on the gas for this long. Like I said, I just can’t imagine not doing it. It’s been a long journey, a rollercoaster, but I still find so much fulfillment in creating alongside my friends. I’ve learned that more important than streaming numbers, playlists, or anything else is the joy I still get in creating. And that’s what drives me the most these days. I’m having more fun with it than I ever have. Everything I write is from my soul, my life, and my experiences, and I’m grateful that anyone is listening.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Coffee and breakfast at Norma’s in Wappingers. Lunch at Main Course in New Paltz. Mini hike at a spot I like to keep a secret. Dinner at Cosimo’s or El Azteca in Poughkeepsie. Ice Cream at Holy Cow in Red Hook. I’d show them all the beautiful little nooks and crannies that the Hudson Valley has to offer. So many beautiful nature spots where I’m from!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Tyler Falcoa. We started working together before we even became friends, but he’s become like a brother to me. We found each other in a time in which everything in my musical life came to a screeching halt during the pandemic. I had to start from scratch, completely change my process, and who I create with. He helped me rediscover a confidence in myself and my songwriting that I honestly may not have ever had before. We’ve done everything together ever since. There’s not a song or project I’ve worked on or released since the end of 2020 that we didn’t work on together. I’m forever grateful for that working relationship, but even more so, the friendship.
