We had the good fortune of connecting with Voncille Chaney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Voncille, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success has been leading with love. That may mean different things to many different people. However, for me it means showing up as my most authentic self. This allows me to connect with people on all different levels. All people want is to feel like they matter, they’re valued or they’re appreciated in some way. I always try to let my clients/customers know that I see them. Sometimes I can see the things that they can’t even see for themselves. I often get goosebumps when young people get excited to meet me, “The Author”. I love to see their eyes light up, when I let them that they can be an author or whatever they want to be one day. Speaking life into their dreams and ideas goes a long way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I Am Queen JVC LLC is a company that combines my vision to help both adults (Just V Consulting) and children (I Am Queen Books) alike.

Just V Consulting is a Career Coaching Service that provides individuals with Life Mastery skills. What makes JVC different from the rest is that we are focused on all areas surrounding an individual’s success. Specific services include: Organizational Skills Development; Budget Planning; Education Guidance; College Admissions Essay Help; Career Guidance; Interview Coaching; Resume Revision; Resume Writing (From Scratch); Curriculum Vitae (CV) Resumes; Cover Letters; and Thank You Letters.

I Am Queen books focuses on youth empowerment. The anti-bullying regime instills the concept of self-love for girls and boys from all communities. “I Am Queen Ruby” is my very first book. It is about a young girl, named Ruby, who is teased for having darker skin. When Ruby gets empowered by her teacher, she realizes that she is a queen. My second book is called “Queen Iris Gets Her Crown”, it is about a girl who is teased about her natural hair texture. She gets inspired by her grandmother and realizes that she is a Queen.

I Am Queen JVC LLC was birthed naturally based on the skills that I crafted over the past 17 years, (as a Recruiter, Director of Operations, Human Resource and Budget Director for the Department of Education); and following my passion for helping others. Word of mouth has always been my greatest marketing tool. I stared helping family and friends enhance their resumes, then I would help their friends, and their friend’s friends. At that point I decided to expand my services and create a business, rather than being know as the “Resume Lady”.

When it came to writing books, I was literally driving alone in my car one evening, and it just hit me. “I will write books to empower young girls”. I immediately told my family and friends and they held me accountable, They would ask about my progress and that would motivate me. I also leaned in on a few of my Author friends. I was nervous, but I knew it was something that had to be done. I saw the task as something greater than myself, so I did the work to make it happen. The first book was a tough process, I wanted to give up towards the end, as the Self-Publish process is very tiring due to its hands-on nature. I can remember just sitting still and asking God to guide me, and then I began to see the finish line. The second book was much easier. I am working on the third book now.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a foodie and my family and I love to support Vegan spots. I would grab breakfast from Wadada Healthy Market & Juice. I would have lunch at Tassili’s Raw Reality Café. I would gab dinner from Slutty Vegan. Then I would visit Revolution Doughnuts for dessert. The next day I grab breakfast from Cinnaholic, grab lunch from Kale Me Crazy and do dinner and dancing at Taste, and have dessert at Vegan Dream Donuts the next day. I would visit Axum for their amazing Afrocentric clothing selection.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to and my 21-year-old son, Ahmai, because he inspires me to be the best I can be at all times. He sees me before the world gets to see me; and the best part about that is that he always tries to match my energy. From the time he was a small child, I knew that if I wanted him to be great, I had to be greater; and every day I have to be better than I was yesterday.
