We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
After 29 years as a marketing & pr healthcare executive, I entered a new chapter in my life and opened a seasonal flower market. Six years later, Pumpkinvine Gardens Flower Shoppe continues to thrive because of one main lesson learned – treat people the way you expect to be treated!

Building strong working relationships with vendors is crucial to any business. I depend on so many people to successfully open every spring and fall season. My amazing vendors are a vital part of our team.

The customer experience is my top priority. Our neighborhood flower market is a destination where people come to learn about flowers and plants.

We help customers pick out flowers best suited for their environment while listening to their stories. They become our flower shoppe friends – as we call them – instead of customers.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Pumpkinvine Gardens Flower Shoppe is nestled within our Acworth, Georgia community. In addition to gorgeous hanging baskets bursting with color, tropical flowers and unique houseplants, we offer an array of whimsical yard art.

We also work closely with our talented neighbors and sell their handmade garden decor. And we’re known for our recycling program – Bring Back Your Basket!

Simply bring back your hanging basket or container from last season, and we’ll replant it while you shop! We’ve seen some of the same hanging baskets recycled for five years, which makes us happy.

Gardening can be overwhelming, so our goal is to offer flowers and plants that are easy to maintain and can survive in the sizzling summer. We stick to the basics and provide immediate pops of color!

In the fall, we’re known for Porch Scape Bundles – Heirloom Pumpkin stacks, cornstalks, Indian Corn and mini pumpkins packaged together for fall decorating.

And we love when our flower shoppe friends send us pics of our garden masterpieces in their new home! We share their pics on our Facebook and Instagram sites and tell their story, which is always the most popular posts.

Pumpkinvine Gardens Flower Shoppe is a family business. My niece works with me full-time and is known for producing our creative “how to” and behind-the-scenes videos on TikTok. We like to have fun and share how we run our small business.

Every April – July (spring season) and October – November (fall season), our regulars come to visit. We’re often compared to a Hallmark movie set where neighbors love to stop by, chat and show us pics of their gardens.

Our continued growth is a direct result of the relationships we have built with our flower shoppe friends and new neighbors. We are incredibly grateful for their ongoing support!.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Located 45 minutes northwest of Atlanta, Acworth, Georgia and surrounding small cities such as Cartersville are filled with unique shops and restaurants in their town squares.

And there are numerous activities for outdoor fun such as boating on Lake Allatoona and rafting on the Etowah River.

Only 90 minutes north is Chattanooga where an amazing aquarium, museums and other exceptional dining are available.

And, of course, Pumpkinvine Gardens Flower Shoppe is an awesome place to visit for a cool souvenir!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Throughout both chapters of my career, my Mom has been my role model and provided constant support. She had a very successful healthcare career while raising two children. She showed me that you can have the best of both worlds.

And now my 81-year-old Mom works with me designing and planting hanging baskets. I was lucky to inherit her green thumb! Our flower shoppe friends love her and the gardening expertise she provides.
