We had the good fortune of connecting with Meredith Lowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meredith, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success dates back to my freshman year in high school. I knew I loved to draw, but I didn’t know the talent I had until my incredible art teacher unlocked it. She encouraged me, loved me, pushed me, helped me explore my creative side, and taught me the fundamentals of art. Art education helps students explore new ways of thinking, reduces stress, and improves the ability to problem solve. I would have to say, the most important factor to my success is art education and my wonderful high school art teacher, Mrs. Toth!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I began my career as an art teacher. I taught elementary and middle school art for several years. I was also awarded Teacher of the Year in 2019! I believe art education is just as important as mathematics and English. We don’t all fit the same mold and I believe it is the job of every teacher, in every subject, to help unlock children’s strengths in order to prepare them for a successful career. I absolutely loved teaching and I loved my students with all my heart. I was even able to teach my own precious children through the years. What an honor! However, I put my own personal art on hold and lost sight of who I was. It was a tough decision to leave education, but that leap of faith ended up being such a blessing to me and my family. Now I can paint any time I want in my home art studio!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My idea of fun with a best friend would be a place we can just talk and catch up. Hanging out at the house, enjoying local hole in the walls, and just enjoying each other’s company. I guess I am kind of boring!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I credit my success throughout life to my family. Oftentimes artists are thought of in a negative light, rather than someone who is a risk-taker, embraces their talents, and pushes the limits. I am blessed to say everyone in my circle cheers for me no matter what direction I take. I wouldn’t be the artist I am today without their love and encouragement.
