We had the good fortune of connecting with Cheryl Monroe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cheryl, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Cheryl Monroe, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, has emerged as a multifaceted force, blending a rich military background with a passion for community service and entrepreneurship. As the Owner/Business Strategist of CK Management and Consultant Group, she propels individuals, small businesses, and non-profit organizations towards their fullest potential. Simultaneously, as the Owner/Executive Director of the Cleaning Advantage, she specializes in providing environmentally friendly and sustainable cleaning solutions. Cheryl co-founded Blazing Beauties, a non-profit organization fostering a safe space for girls and women to engage, learn, and grow through various community initiatives. From organizing community feedings, literacy programs, scholarships, and community enhancement seminars to poll watching, confidence building, and mentoring, Cheryl has become a stakeholder through service in the community.

Background and upbringing undoubtedly shape individuals, but Cheryl’s life has been marked by a remarkable journey of personal growth, adaptation, and service. Initially entering the military for economic improvement, Cheryl ended up serving an impressive 28 years in the United States Army becoming the first Black female to obtain the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Five in the Ammunition Field 2017 and she was inducted into the U.S. Army Women Foundation Hall of Fame in 2020. She faced adversity head-on during her six combat tours to Uzbekistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait. She earned recognition for exceptional leadership while serving as a military representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Interoperability Ammunition Working Group conducting strategic engagement with representatives from 28 nations redefining sustainment transformation. These endeavors played a role in shaping her worldview on perceived authority, cultural relationships, and societal expectation.

Education became a cornerstone of Cheryl’s journey. Graduating from Fayetteville State University with a bachelor’s in business administration and Webster University with an MBA specializing in HRM, she also holds two associate degrees in missile and munition technology. Cheryl’s commitment to continuous learning is evident through certifications as a Project Management Professional, Certified Knowledge Management Process Integrator, Certified Business Coach, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, and Demonstrated Master Logistician.

Reflecting on her military service, Cheryl decided to channel her skills into entrepreneurship to achieve financial freedom and build a legacy. CK Management and Consultant Group, a veteran-owned business, exemplifies Cheryl’s commitment to transforming operational challenges into growth opportunities for small businesses.

Cheryl emphasizes the importance of education, stressing that it doesn’t always mean a four-year degree. Her journey showcases a commitment to learning beyond academia, evident in completing courses at Cornell University and UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.

The lessons learned was understanding that it was okay to pivot when necessary and embrace change when required to remain relevant in the market and as a small business the balance between providing quality services and products and managing cost to remain competitive.

Cheryl’s commitment extends beyond her businesses; she volunteered with the National Small Business Association Leadership Council, advocating for small businesses and economic development alongside other small businesses advocating from across the country to tackle the many critical issues facing small businesses to policymakers in Washington, D.C. She has advocated for social inclusion and building power among disenfranchised communities for broader societal changes.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?Beyond excited to host my best friend in town! Our itinerary would be jam-packed with all the things we love. For a bit of friendly competition, we’re heading to the EpiCenter for some bowling fun to swinging clubs at Topgolf. And when it’s time to elevate our dining experience, a scrumptious meal awaits us at the Sun Dial or a cozy evening at home having a fish fry. Finally, we’ll wrap up this epic adventure with a historical walk through the MLK National Historic Site and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights and the ultimate relaxation – a soothing day at the spa. We will have an unforgettable time filled with laughter, music, history, friendly competition, fine dining, and total relaxation.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother Gail Jacobs-Moody inspired me to start the business through her words, actions, and values. I saw her take charge, overcome challenges, and succeed in this industry. She instilled values such as hard work, honesty, and empathy. These values are fundamental to building a successful business and maintaining strong relationships with customers, employees, and partners. Her influence shaped my mindset, aspirations, and desire to become an entrepreneur. My husband Ken Monroe, son Maceo Blount, and my brother Demetrius Dorsey for always supporting my dreams and ensuring I take care of myself along the way.
