We had the good fortune of connecting with Zoe Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zoe, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Ever since I was a little girl, self-care has always been important to me. I didn’t realize it then, but having all the time in the world to soak in bubble baths, use products that made me smell and feel good, and taking care of my skin would be a luxury I would crave more time for as an adult. Ironically, as we grow older and wiser, we still tend to forget that we cannot pour from an empty cup, and our own personal time for self reflection and replenishment is put on the back burner. I started Stay Down to Earth to create products that inspire you to take time to decompress, destress, and take advantage of the natural benefits of essential oils, skin-loving butters and herbs. Using bath bombs in your soak offers a foamy and moisturizing water show that keeps you drawn to your tub. Before you know it, you’ve been relaxing longer than you imagined you could make time for. Enjoying your self-care process motivates you to do it more often, resulting in a happier, healthier you. When I made my first batch of bath bombs four years ago, my goal was to create natural, vegan and beautiful bath and body care for all skin types. It has slowly but steadily grown into a diverse brand with growing product lines, including Liquid Bubble Baths, Whipped Shea Butters, Body Scrubs, Bubble Bars, Body Oils, and even a new Cold Process Soap Shop that launched August of 2020. Stay Down to Earth has allowed me to step away from a full time job and spend more time at home being a wife and mom to an amazing six-year old son. I aim to demonstrate to him through my own actions how important self-care is to our well-being, along with how powerful it is to never work another day in your life by pursuing your passions!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The most fun part of my job is trying, testing, and sniffing new oils, fragrances and custom blends for upcoming products. I take pride in mixing original, never basic, and addicting scent blends that are not only skin-safe, but offer moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties. I’ve always considered myself a creative person, pursuing art and music classes growing up. As the owner and sole product compounder of Stay Down to Earth, I get to play with colorants, textures, smells every day. It’s truly interesting to learn how different ingredients react together, as I’ve had to become more familiar with chemistry on my bath bomb and soap-making journeys. It inspires me to know that every bit of research, experimentation, along with all the trials and errors, lead to steady and sure improvements in my product and brand.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spot to take visitors is Heirloom Market BBQ in Smyrna, GA. It’s connected to a literal convenience store and is about the size of a small bedroom. Inside, they prepare Korean style BBQ, along with classic and delicious southern sides we all love. It always amazes me to go into a hole in the wall and get better food than down the street at a 5 star restaurant! One of my other favorite things to do is shop around other local shops and farmer’s markets to continue connecting with the community and supporting small businesses. Farmer’s Table in Douglasville, GA has both fresh produce and a market side with handmade goods and other local treats and trinkets.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Elle Moss, Co. is a new black-owned candle company ran by Lexie Moss, a dear friend of mine for many years! Her company just began but her standards for her work are impeccable! Sarah Weldon on YouTube is an influencer/reviewer for mostly other small businesses. She used to be my coworker at a salon, before she left to pursue her passions full time.
