We had the good fortune of connecting with Dakota Cerro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dakota, how do you think about risk?
I believe you don’t get anywhere without taking risks. I think everyone every now and then has to take a chance on something may not be comfortable with because you just never know how it will turn out. ive found that some of the greatest success stories are about people who got out of their comfort zones and took risks. not every risk has to be the biggest risk of your life, some can be simple day to day risks but I believe they all add up to make you who you are as a person. Im a big believer in the mentality of “lets try it and see what happens” i’m a very curious person and with curiosity comes of level of risk taking that many people might shy away from but i’ve always embraced it. I think everything has a time and place and sometimes definitely the best option to not take a risk on something but thats a choice you have to make. sometimes its best to just let loose a bit and take a chance because who knows, you may end up in a better position then you even imagined you would be in.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As cliche as it sounds, I believe i’m growing as an artist every day. I don’t think i’m alone in that boat and thats a good thing. i think its important to find inspiration every day no matter what size it comes in. Im very proud of the art i’ve created up to this point and while there are defiantly some projects i believe i could have done a better job on, i’m proud of the work that i did do and will always look back on them fondly for being a reflection of the time and place i was in. I wouldn’t say my journey to this point has been the easiest or the hardest, as i’m sure many other people would also say. Everyone has their own path with their own speed bumps that you have to get over and some will be easier than others but thats life. you just always have to be as ready as you can for whatever is thrown at you. The biggest lesson i’ve learned along the way is to take a breath every now and then and sit back for a minute. Its easy to get caught up in the fast pace chaos of life around you and it always seems like things are moving faster than every and its ok to pause for a moment. you have to worry about yourself first. If you’re not good, then your work wont be good. You need to remember that taking a moment for yourself is ok and that you’re going to be ok. if you get to the end of the day and don’t feel that great, remind yourself that tomorrow is a new day and its coming no matter what. you cant escape it, so take it head on.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It hasn’t been that long since i moved to Atlanta so i feel like i’ve only scraped the surface of things to see and do here but i’ve definitely found some places i end up returning to every now and then that will be a stop on the itinerary when someone comes to visit. As far as food goes i’m a sucker for a good taco so I cant get enough of Little Reys and Rreal Taco. if were going for breakfast i’m hitting Atlanta Breakfast Club, or Fist Watch. Im also a big fan of sushi and theres this place by me called Sushi Kiku that i consider getting food from probably too often. Ill try anything so if anyone has any good recommendations i’m all ears because i want to explore the food in the area as much as i can. As far as places go, i’ve been to the aquarium a few times and i absolutely love it. I’m sure thats the most touristy answer but i love aquariums and the Atlanta aquarium is super impressive. I also love the outdoors and going on hikes so if you have the time i would recommend taking a drive a little bit outside of Atlanta and checking out Amicolola falls. Its absolutely beautiful in the fall time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people keep me going whether I know them personally or not. As far as my personal life goes, my close friends and family that have been by my side for a majority of my life and will continue to be there when i need them deserve all the praise in the world. Those people have molded me into the person i am today and will continue to shape me as a person as i grow. On the career side of things, my creativity is inspired by so many different artists and works. I can attribute my current creativity to any of my favorite films and the filmmakers behind them in all departments. There are too many people who have come into my life and affected me both negatively and positively and have gotten me here today so ill give them all a collective thanks. I think they know who they are.
