We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Starks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I truly don’t believe in giving up. I think that if something doesn’t automatically work the first time, try again, and try again until it works itself out. Failure is only true failure when you give up.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an Award winning talk show host, author, and founder of Courtney’s Corner LLC. For me, what sets me apart is I created a brand based off the things that I felt I was missing as a young adult. I didn’t see many safe spaces or places where young adults felt free enough to express themselves and be who they were unapologetically. I wanted to create that platform as a way of giving the community something we didn’t have.

I’m excited to see my brand blossom and become bigger than myself. It warms my heart when individuals tell me how my platform helped them find their needed resources or elevated their brand to the next level. It allows me to see that what I’m doing is impactful.

I got to where I am today by taking a chance on myself. It was the hardest and challenging journey I’ve been on, but the most rewarding. My challenge to everyone is to trust God, have faith, and never be afraid to bet on yourself.

Through my story I want the world to know that they don’t get the right to give up. What you’re doing isn’t just for you, but for generations to come behind you. What will that legacy look like?

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m such a homebody, but if I had friends coming to visit we would definitely visit some of my favorite restaurants (Maestros, Vidas, etc…) Walking the skyline to get a view of how beautiful NYC looks like, a few good karaoke spots. Things of that nature.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shout out to my friends, family, and my team! I wouldn’t be where I am today without the love, support, and pray of these amazing individuals
