We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Pollak and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my marketing agency in 2012 when I saw how there was a need for social media management, but it wasn’t yet a career. Since there were very few jobs in social media marketing, most jobs revolved around blogging, I decided to start reaching out to people to see if they needed help in those areas. That led me to landing a few clients in the music industry, and I began my career in social media makerting.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I run a marketing business that caters to artists, brands, and more in the digital space. That can be social media management, managing advertising campaigns, and building brands. I think the fact I have worked with a variety of fields makes me unique and keeps me excited, as well as partnering with small and large agencies.

I have worked in music, film, and fashion, and recently I began working as the global marketing director for a startup book publisher, Muse Literary, and their lineup of authors.

Starting your own business is never easy. Persistence is the key. Also, a lot of “marketers” tend to rely on doing what I do the fake way. Fake followers, fake traffic, bots, etc. It makes the industry look bad. However, I do it all the legitimate way, never bought a fake follower for anyone.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I like Inman Park and the Old 4th Ward. You can walk the Beltline and check out a bunch of great spots to eat and drink, like Ponce City Market and Krog Market. Tons of restaurants as well. Chattahoochee Foodworks is also a great spot that is being built out more. I would also check out a hike or two as there are a lot of them. The hike that ends in the bamboo forest is particularly amazing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would dedicate it to my parents, who didn’t think I was crazy for wanting to start a career in a field that didn’t really exist yet. They understood and encouraged me to pursue it.
