We had the good fortune of connecting with Bernail Fluellen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bernail, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I love this question because for so long I did not recognize and embrace real work life balance. My career shot off right after college graduation and at that time I was so focused on the next job opportunity and open doors leading to success that I neglected me personally along with other valuable life moments. Later through my journey, after discovering true identity and purpose did I realize that I was missing out on the finer things in life. A few of those moments were quality time with family, date nights and exploring things I truly enjoyed as simple as nature trail walks, traveling, being creative and so much more. It took me a minute to get there, but now I can say I’ve found a better work life balance because of my sacrificial “no’s” and setting boundaries to the things in life that have gradually pulled me away from inner rest, peace and joy in my soul. And now, I’m grateful, as I’m in a better position to do what I love without the daily stresses of life. Finally cherishing greater success spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally such as my faith walk in God, family, writing, creating, coaching/mentoring and additional purpose work. These opportunities have allowed me to gain true rest and the enjoyment of embracing the greatness from within of who I was created to be; which is me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the Principle Creative Designer and Founder of BeFaith Inspirations, Inc. where we help women and girls dream and live life inspired through tech-friendly designs such as art, stationery and accessories. Our tag line is to “Be You, Have Faith and Inspire always.” We have hopes of one day spreading inspiration through our creative writings and designs worldwide. I am also the Founder of Women Letting God Move, Inc. a non-profit organization seeking to empower women and others in their faith walk to hear God, transform and move confidently into their prophetic destiny. We also mentor, serve our community, teach, host gatherings and retreats to help others gain wisdom in biblical principles, heal, receive freedom and understand their gifts so they can be liberated to move freely in every area of their life. Birthing vision is never easy, and sometimes it can weigh heavy, bringing many doubts and fears. My spiritual father always says that if it is a God idea, it’s usually too big for you to handle it alone. I am beginning to learn that yielding to help can be your very best friend in seasons of birthing dreams and vision. I counteract negative talk and thoughts by surrounding myself with positive friends and coaches that speak life when I’ve had the worst life experiences during the launching of new initiatives. I also encourage myself often by speaking life into my day and writing positive quotes/biblical inspiration in my journal such as, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me ~ Philippians 4:13” and “be strong and courageous…that you may be successful everywhere you go ~ Joshua 1:7”. Also, reminding myself that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, equipped and uniquely crafted to carry out everything I was designed and purposed to. Whenever it gets hard and I want to quit, I remember my why, shifting my focus on the lives that will be healed, transformed and impacted by our inspirational creative designs and faith-based community. To see beautiful smiles illuminating through in the end is well worth every challenge and life pivot.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take my friend to a beautiful nature trail and lake in the area called Sweetwater Park, Lake Lanier or Ana Ruby Falls. Depending on how adventurous my bestie is during our week together I’d love to take my friend to iFLY indoor skydiving. For a night out in the town, I would share a once in a lifetime experience enjoying the nightlife SkyView, a ferris wheel experience revealing our beautiful downtown city skyline and local park. Maybe too, giving them an experience at our Botanical Gardens and catching a few of our local History/Art Museums and fine dining restaurants. And of course, we have to stop by eighty7sweets Vegan Ice Cream Company as I love their savory vegan ice cream flavors with a fresh chocolate chip waffle bowl. And lastly, we must stop by Kilwin’s, a chocolate factory in the midtown area as I love, love, love some good ole chocolate. I hope my best friend likes heights, adventure, history and sweets as it will be an unforgettable time of fun and laughs to remember for a lifetime.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate this Shoutout series to my parents Jared and Vivian Fluellen, Sr. who have been my greatest cheerleaders and supporters, encouraging and investing in my dreams and visions since my youth. They’ve supported me through all of my risky life moves both personally and professionally. I also want to thank my siblings, friends and family who have always stood beside me through the ups and downs, letting me know what true unconditional love and support really means. I also want to Shoutout my spiritual leaders, coaches and mentors who have given me not only spiritual wisdom, but strategies to help through the navigation of new creative innovation and business ventures. And a big Shoutout to the Women Letting God Move, Inc. community for always praying, covering and inspiring me near and far. Thank you!
