We had the good fortune of connecting with Mēagan Sky and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mēagan, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking tiny risks equals massive change over time. Going after my dreams is scary. But staying stuck is even scarier. For me, playing it safe lead to a life that looked great on the outside, but on the inside I was restless, unfulfilled and not really offering the world all that I am. I was a successful Creative Director, a mother of twins, a wife…but I longed to be a singer, a performer, and create art that would speak to people’s hearts and help them see their own potential. Flash forward to today, I am a performing musician and I just released my first full album called “I’ll Be The One”, that documents my journey of self-love. I feel aligned, in flow with my purpose, and everyday I am taking risks to show up for myself and for my dreams. I want to my choices to keep me inspired and that means doing things that are often uncomfortable, not within my known reality. Without risk, I would still be trying to seek fulfillment with my mind, not my heart. Risk is your intuition. Risk has a heartbeat. Risk is all about taking a chance and I think we are all worth a chance!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My music and offerings are all centered around Self-Love. Without self-love I wouldn’t be where I am today. After playing it safe and pleasing others for years, I found myself at my emotional rock bottom and realized I was the only one who could save me from my own life. I was going to have to believe in myself enough to actualize what my heart was yearning for. For three years I worked on crafting songs, refining my singing voice and doing deep inner work to share my vulnerability with the world in the form of music. It was not easy. It’s still challenging. But the more I do it, the more comfortable I get with knowing it’s going to be uncomfortable and that’s ok because it leads to change. Putting myself out there for the sake of my own art, is vulnerable. I’m telling the world my fears and passions. But when I realized this wasn’t just for me, that it was helping so many other people with their own transformations, the fire in me grew. When we serve the greater good and it comes from our own spark, it is a perfect harmony and success is inevitable. I learned the more I operated from a place where I felt lit-up and inspired, not from a place of “have to” or “shoulds”, the more powerful and impactful my message and offerings were. I believe the future is in heart-led businesses and brands. My brand, my business, my music, my offerings all come from personal alignment and uncovering my greatest truths. I share them with the world, in hopes of helping others feel less alone on their self-love journey, I hope that when they hear my music they feel inspired to follow their inner spark!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My brother-in-law and his wife live is Cabbage town and the murals there are amazing. The Tabernacle is an awesome venue for live music! 97 Astoria for good food and fun vibes. The Oakland Cemetery is beautifully haunting…and you cant forget the Waffle house at like 2am on a Saturday!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Looking back there has been an arsenal of books, a parade of friends, coaches and mentors cheering me on. I wish I could shout out to them all!!! But most importantly I want to give extra thanks to my family who put up with all my endless hours in the studio, hearing the same songs over and over again while I polished them up for the world. I need to shout out to Cari Cole at CCVM. Cari helped usher my album into the world with her heart-lead, therapeutic A&R direction. She saw in me the things I couldn’t yet believe.
