We had the good fortune of connecting with Mamas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mamas, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Freedom. Freedom has always been my thought process when thinking of becoming an entrepreneur. I started this journey over a decade ago. I have been employed solely for myself since then. I just wanted Freedom. Freedom to raise my kids &enjoy life. Each business had a different secondary thought but the initial thought was always Freedom.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Don’t Beat Around The Bush, LLC is a unique freedom promoting entity. It is made up of 2 brands, Mamas Bushhh Community which is based in womans empowerment and mindset change through coaching, mentorship, workshops & classes for women and couples and 2nd brand The Bushhh which is our brick-and-mortar space located in Philadelphia. In our venue we create a safe space for women to communicate and explore judgement free. It’s a woman cave, that we sometimes allow invited men in. A safe space for women to let their hair down and take the weight of the world’s expectations off their shoulders if only for a few hours. We laugh, have spicy convo, dance and sometimes even cry in The Bushhh. It’s our safe space. What excites me most about my business is the ability to help women to transform into more confident and accepting version of themselves. It’s so dope to see the smallest changes, like a woman who didn’t initially wear shorts because she was uncomfortable about her legs suddenly only wear shorts. It’s something about being in a judgement free space with likeminded people that can change your life.
When I initially thought of opening The Bushhh, it was due to feeling boxed in sexually. Feeling like I wanted to explore with my then husband at the time and not really knowing where to start. How to introduce it? What am I even trying to introduce? I wanted us to explore as a couple but found that there was nothing in between swingers clubs and strip clubs. This is how the Bush came to be, I wanted to create a space that could bridge the gap and help women and their mates continue to grow intimately. This resulted in meeting so many dope educators and vendors that were knowledgeable in non traditional forms of intimacy and exploration. We were the home of the signature girls’ night out but infusing these erotic educators allowed us to curate truly unique experiences which became The Ultimate Girls Night Out. This is our claim to fame, a girls’ night you will never forget!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had an out-of-town visitor of course we would first have to check out The Bushhh! For some great food, we would have to hit El Taco on University City Campus. I feel like you can’t go wrong with any item on their menu. After Tacos, we would definitely walk a few blocks over to The Treat Box Philly for the best cupcakes in the city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would definitely have to give credit to all the phenomenal women in my life, starting of course with my Mom for showing me tough love and never keeping me in the dark about real life. My grandmom for making me feel like the smartest girl in the world. My middle school principal who ran this at the time small Christian school, she showed me what a boss looked like without even knowing it. She was so powerful and her space, her school was everything! She inspired me Lastly, I have to shoutout all the ladies that didn’t hold back information when I was in my beginning journey of entrepreneurship, all the ones that didn’t hate and were open books for my thousands of questions and relentless research.
