Meet Jarvis Gray | Business Strategist and Marketing Automation Expert

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jarvis Gray and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jarvis, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After working as a Consulting Professor at Emory University and offering classes in the Continuing Education program, I started my own business in 2017. So many of the people who went through the school were business owners and leaders. This gave me the chance to help them in a more important way. So I started my business on the side while I was still working in the corporate world. I gave myself five years to be able to put everything I had into my business. I was able to reach most of my goals in three years, so I chose to move forward 100% sooner than I had planned. In the end, I wanted to be financially independent and be in charge of my own time so I could spend more time with my family and young kids. I also wanted to do something that had never been done before for my family. Since I grew up in South Miami, I didn’t know any real businesspeople, and there aren’t any on my family right now. I wanted to build something and leave a mark on the world that no one in my family had done before.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think it’s rare to find a job path that fits your abilities and skills perfectly, but I feel like I’ve been able to do that. I’m a person who is very curious and interested in the details. Always curious about how things work and the steps that need to be taken to put a business or activity together. Because of this, my schooling as an industrial engineer fit well with the things I was interested in. But now, as I work with my business coaching partners to help them build businesses that will be successful and last for a long time, the work I do as a business planner and marketing expert will fit together nicely. Because of my natural skills, I can get into the details of how they run their business, but I can also step back and help them see the bigger picture and the next steps. The work I do for my clients is never the same from day to day, so it’s not always easy. However, my strong base and natural curiosity make all the work I do more interesting and keep me deeply involved in helping my clients get to the next level.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, I run around Stone Mountain with them. Getting up at 5:30a on weekends to do the loop is a normal part of my weekend routine. After that, we clean up and go to the Atlanta Breakfast Club for breakfast. Even though I’ve lived in Atlanta for 10 years, I’ve never been to the College Football Hall of Fame. Since I used to play college football at the University of Miami (FL), this would be near the top of the list. Then end the day by trying some of the great food out at Ponce City Market.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This shout-out is for my wife and kids, my family, and my mother, who gave me everything I needed to be great in life. I also want to shout out to the leaders I coach in business. They push me every day to do my best for their success in the best way possible. Because they let me help them reach their goals, I’ve been able to build an amazing group of business leaders that I’m so proud of!
