Meet Charisse Sky | Singer-Songwriter, Producer & Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Charisse Sky and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charisse, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always known that I wanted to be a worldwide-famous singer, despite being told to pursue otherwise by the elders in my family that knows I am capable of doing many things. Music is quite literally my lifeline. Even if I never got paid a dime, I would still have to surround myself with music to get through my days. It is the oxygen in my blood. It is also one of the very few things to keep my attention. So it was only natural that I have an official career as a musician. My mother always told me, “Do what you love, and the money will follow.”

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been told I have a distinctive voice, although growing up I doubted myself because of it. Overall, my artistry is merely an extension of my being. It combines an eclectic mix of R&B, trap, soul, and alternative music to reflect my intense and creative artistic vision. My music is an honest reflection of my innermost thoughts and emotions, taking you on a journey through my personal transformation and growth.

It has never been easy for me. I grew up experiencing a tumultuous divorce between my parents that put relationship dynamics (familial, friends, and romantic) at the forefront of my brain. It also spawned a list of mental health battles that I fought silently all throughout my childhood through to today. The pains and uprooting of everything I’ve ever known has built me to be adaptable and to persevere through any and all obstacles. If it was not for me pouring myself and my intense emotions into my music, I quite literally would not be alive today.

I am still at the very beginnings of my music career, although I’ve been singing and songwriting pretty much my whole life. The most important thing I’ve learned so far is time stops for no one. You can either focus on yourself and chase your dreams, or watch someone else accomplish the things you’ve dreamed of.

I want the world to know that I cannot be boxed in. I am nothing more than a manifestation of all the beautiful people that have poured into me. As a result, duality is engrained into my being. I’m a lover unafraid to fight to the death for what I love, and that is my family and my music. If you could describe the brand of Charisse Sky in three words, it would be quirky, sassy, and ambitious. I’ve come to take over the world in the best ways possible, and the world has no choice but to make space for me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I don’t go out much. I’m working on being more social, but some of my fave spots when I’m in the city are Milk and Honey in Decatur, Arden’s Garden, BQE, Drawbar (I used to work there) and of course walking downtown ATL like I used to in my college days.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my parents for creating me, and giving me their drive, ambition, and endurance despite an ever-changing world. They still let me be me and allowed me to flourish by surrounding me with music. I would also like to thank Nicki Minaj and Tamar Braxton for being the two of the most influential people in my music artistry and personality. Both are passionate, incredible, and ambitious Black women with big unique personalities that showed me it’s okay to be myself no matter what someone else may think. They have poured endless amounts of love, support and understanding into their fans, and I am forever thankful for that kind of love and influence. It’s only right to pay it forward.
