We had the good fortune of connecting with Keben The King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keben, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Making music and spending time with family and friends makes me happy. Challenging myself adds some serotonin to the mix as well. I say making music because the feeling I get from creating the elements to a song is indescribable. Quality time with my loved ones always brings a smile on my face due to the memories that we make. I say challenging myself because it adds some adrenaline to my life and I like where mystery takes me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a 17-year old music artist, engineer, and producer from the Bronx, New York. I mainly make synthwave and 80s-pop music but Hip-Hop is my foundation as you may have seen in my earlier works. I’m most proud of myself for willing to change my style of music and try new sounds although I’ve doubted myself at times. I say that I’m proud of this because the switch in genre led to my most successful single at the moment called “Werewolf”. I’m excited about the future because I have a lot of unreleased music to put out and I’m interested in seeing how people will react to it. My current goal is to become widely known. I’m set on making it to the top and spreading positivity to the world through songs. In terms of getting to where I’m at today, I know that there’s a lot left that I have to do in order to become and remain successful. The journey hasn’t been easy but it’s the struggle that gives you robustness. I overcome the challenges by referring back to the virtues of patience and temperance. One important lesson I’ve learned so far is to not let doubt cloud your head and make peace with situations that don’t go your way at times. That’s just life and I have to be patient. I want the world to know that I won’t stop grinding until I make a revolutionary impact. Also, that I’ll never think of my listeners as people that I’m superior to. They make the artist and I’d rather have a fanbase that’s like a family to me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m not really sure but I’d probably take my best friend to either the block or Times Square to hang out. You’ll find anything fun to do in the Bronx with the right people. In terms of eating, the deli called “Alamo Delicatessen” got some good food. I get my chop cheese, and baconeggncheese from there. The most exciting people I’ve met so far are from my block and high school so my best friend could hang with them as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s a lot of people who deserve some recognition. I’d like to shoutout my parents for the immense support. For instance, my dad’s been to almost all of my studio sessions and all of my music videos. I’d also like to shoutout my friends that are like brothers and sisters to me because they’re always motivating me to keep dropping music. Also, my teachers (shoutout @daniel.chaynes) and the engineers I’ve worked with throughout the years deserve a shoutout. I feel like they’re often overlooked.
