We had the good fortune of connecting with Kennedy Scales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kennedy, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is making sure that everyone I come in contact with feels that I am an easy person to talk to and that I care. Ever since I started my own talk show on YouTube, it’s made me realize more and more why I have such a passion for journalism. As a journalist/talk show host, it’s vital that I make my guest feel comfortable and open to sharing their life experiences. Not only that, but as my talk show has grown into my brand, it has opened opportunities for me to meet new people, learn new things, and make many connections. Thanks to Hampton University, and the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications, I have received bits and pieces of success as I grow. Which I know will soon one day leave me with more success and blessings from God. I am so thankful for the amount of faith and support that I receive every day from my family, peers, faculty, and staff.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
“EverythingKenn The Show” was started by me (Kennedy Scales), back in spring 2022. I decided to start my own talk show because I wanted to improve my interviewing, and storytelling skills. Over the past year, my show has grown tremendously! Recently I just hit 300+ subscribers and received new camera equipment, and a new location to record my show. As a talk show host/journalist, I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and attempted to interview a few celebrities. As of fall 2022, I was able to interview actors Jay Ellis, and Lamman Rucker at only 19 years old! This was a huge step for my show and for myself. I was splendid that I had accomplished one of my goals and that my hard work had started to pay off. When accomplishing your goals as a business or brand, it takes a big weight off your shoulder, because you finally feel like you’re growing and expanding. Due to the fact that I write, edit,produce, record,and host my show by my self while also involved in six other organizations and still a college student. It can be exceptionally difficulty to make sure you are reaching those goals. In the future, I plan to rebrand my show and create new goals of myself and the show. With the help of God, family, and friends, I know I have many more blessings coming ahead!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had to visit somewhere with my friends, I would love to visit Miami, Florida. I have visited Florida numerous times but never Miami. I heard that it’s the perfect place to party, eat, and tour! I would love it if we could spend a three-day weekend there, and spend the first-day touring and trying new foods, the second day, getting our hair and nails done by some of the best hair and nail artists. Then later that night hang out at a fun beach party. On the last day, I would love to go shopping, relax in a pool and later on that night visit the best crab and lobster restaurant in town! In my opinion anywhere with a beach, pool, and good food, will be a fun and exciting place to visit!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my little brother Harrison Scales, for being my #1 supporter. He subscribed and watched my show since day one. I also want to shout out and thank my parents, Heather and Derrick Scales for purchasing all my camera and lighting equipment, so I can improve my show. In addition, I would like to thank my family and friends that watch and share my show with others. Last but certainly, not least, I want to thank Hampton University’s Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications department for providing me with a space where I can strive as a journalist and become the best version of myself.
