We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrea, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a Professional Dog Trainer for over 25 years, I wanted to make sure that the dogs were treated well and that I was paid for my expertise and my service! So when I started battling with companies about myself worth I decided to just start my own business and that way I could have total control over how the animals were being cared for and my own needs as an animal caretaker

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Yes I consider myself an animal behaviorist however training dogs is a creative venture especially when you’re dealing with people , the dogs are all different and sometimes just to avoid getting hurt you have to make a quick decision. Sometimes it wasn’t easy overwhelming and lots of injuries along the way as I learned to protect myself better! I use my intelligence my skill set my love of humans and knowing that dogs can help them so I stay committed… My brand is a Big adventure

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friends were visiting I would take them to all the local restaurants and open markets… I would also take them to the museums maybe do some yoga a local beach and any music venues… Preferably outdoors

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my clients and the rescue organizations that believe in my services and allowed and trusted me to work with their animals.. I also would like to thank my friends in California that helped me walk dogs, took up the slack, drove me to my client’s house when I was injured from a dog client and believed in me for being such a unique person in the animal field
