We had the good fortune of connecting with CJ Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi CJ, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think about taking risks in a more so growth aspect. In our society it can often become very much fear based in our personal aspirations and goals. We can allow fear to keep us from taking the next step towards a more fulfilling life or the results we desire to see in our life. I would say taking risks throughout my life & career has definitely helped tremendously. I think back that if I had not taken some risks even if in the moment it may not have made sense I would definitely not be where I’m at today.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I go by the stage name Colby J. and I am a Gospel Hip-Hop Recording artist or Inspirational Recording artist, whichever they call it now a days. I’m very big on making music and expressing my faith in Jesus Christ through my music. It has been such a rewarding time in my 6 years of doing gospel music. I’ve had the opportunity to minister to a lot of individuals in person, online or just through the music itself. To see the impact it has had is definitely humbling and let’s me know that this is indeed the right path as far as sharing my gift. I think what sets me apart from others in this field of Gospel music is my ability to just be who God has made me to be. I think that is the winning formula for anyone in the Gospel scene. I would say I’ve definitely had my share of lessons just in general within my faith and in music. A lot of growth has taken place on this journey and quite honestly I personally am a person that challenges myself to grow and hold myself accountable to that growth. It’s definitely a process and some days I don’t always succeed but the willingness to be better still remains. I am proud of how far I have come and hope to continue showing others that growth is not so much a bad thing or something unattainable. I think we all grow in different ways and at different times, it definitely is not easy and should be celebrated when we actually see the work someone has put in to not only change but follow through with it. I know on this journey I’ve met some amazing people and had an really amazing support system along the way. I know without my tribe I wouldn’t be the man that I am, so I give thanks to my Heavenly Father for surrounding me around such great examples of his love and faithfulness when I did give my life to Christ.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There’s so much to do in Atlanta music wise but just to hangout, I would say definitely catching an Atlanta Hawks or Falcons game also upcoming hoopers at the OTE arena. I enjoy being outdoors so definitely hanging at Centennial Olympic Park is a must. Right next to that is World of Coke which is a pretty cool tourist spot and full of history, fun and laughter. Downtown Atlanta to has its share of surprises, although it was once a cool spot to go to Underground Mall isn’t there anymore as far as to go shopping and things but definitely Lenox Mall is a mall where you just might run into your favorite celebrity doing their daily shopping. When in Atlanta to you got to hit a Waffle House and make your way down to The Varsity for some good food. If your a breakfast person then you gotta check out the breakfast club in Atlanta as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I would like to give thanks to my Heavenly Father for keeping me and guiding me throughout my life, also I want to give a shout-out to my family and friends who have been there throughout my journey, it’s to many to make but my tribe know who they are.
