We had the good fortune of connecting with Briana Avalos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Briana, why did you pursue a creative career?
Honestly, it wasn’t even a decision. I have always been a creative person, starting from a very young age. I knew for sure I really wanted to pursue a creative career my sophomore year in high school. I stopped playing soccer and suddenly had all kinds of time on my hands, and I spent it on my art. I won an award for a piece I created, and that really was the moment where I was like, “Woah, I think I can really do this!” I love the fluidity and subjectiveness of creative work. Things are always changing and evolving, just like I am as a person. My body of work has shifted several times over the years. I think that’s one of the best parts of having a creative career though! There are no rules, and I can be any kind of artist that I want to be! I don’t think I could have a career where everything is the same every single day. The flexibility keeps me engaged and in turn, happy. I can’t imagine myself doing anything else.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At this point in my life, my art is fueled by the food and beverage industry! I work as a creative at a local brewery here in Savannah, GA and I adore my work! I get to shoot photos of our delicious beers, create content for our social media, connect with thousands through email marketing, and I get to do it all with our little brew cat in my lap! It took some trial and error to figure out what little niche of work made me most happy, and the alcohol industry specifically fits my personality very well. There is so much character and voice behind a brand like this, and I really get to have fun and create beautiful work. I have furthered my work in this industry through my freelance work, where I have created branding for other local food and beverage businesses. I’m so proud to be able to bring my client’s visions to life and represent who they are. I want to continue to create work and build relationships with other professionals in this industry.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This city is full of little hidden gems. The food is divine, the people are kind, and the city is so beautiful, it looks like its straight out of a movie! (And it is! Lots of movies!) I personally love to spend lots of time outside exploring the squares and old streets of Savannah. There is always something interesting happening! I also love checking out the new Enmarket Arena for sports, shows, and concerts! I can’t wait for the next Ghost Pirates Hockey season!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve got to give the biggest shoutout to my mom and my brother. My mom passed away due to cancer on Christmas Day 2019, and not a day goes by where I am not inspired by her strength and perseverance. I know that my ambition and ability to conquer adversity stems directly from her. My younger brother is my biggest cheerleader. He is THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON in my world, and I always feel supported and encouraged by him. Even though I don’t get to see him everyday, I know he’s in my corner cheering me on. I aim to be a good role model for him and that pushes me to do my best in everything I do.
