Meet LaKisha Goggins | Restaurant Owner- Black Female Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with LaKisha Goggins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaKisha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business, well it has been a dream of mine since I was 17 yrs old. I knew I wanted to open my own Restaurant one day. I have always enjoyed good food from a child living with my Italian Mother and Aunts and also being inspired by my Southern Grandmother from another Mother. Food is what bought us all together it was the one time that everyone seem to come together to laugh and love on each other while enjoying a great meal. As I became an adult I spent alot of time in the restaurant industry as an employee and as a guest. As a guest my favorite pass time was a good meal and glass of wine in an ambience that made me feel ….shall I say “important, sexy and confident. I wanted to make others feel that way. Once the opportunity presented its self in May of 2021, after loosing my job to Covid. I jumped on it, I said it will never feel like the right time, so Im trusting God and jumped out the window. Here I am 2 yrs later with no regrets.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Im what they call a people person and not just that I like people but people seem to feel comfortable with me as well. I have been through many ups and downs in life, I am what many call me the “Black sheep” ! With that I am able to reach all people from many walks of life, i can relate to most of their experiences so i take that and try to create an atmosphere where everyone can be themselves without judgement. I invite and encourage all the under dogs of life to come vibe with me at The G Spot! What Im most excited about is what the future holds for my company SLG Group Enterprise Inc. I have so many ideas that Im seeking guidance on, one being my next venture a Cigar Bar in the Downtown Atlanta area. When its all said and done I want to have encouraged others to pursue their dreams, to never give up on yourself or God. Obstacles will come just to see how bad you want it. Fight, Fight, Fight !

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmm…. Im always looking for a great restaurant with a tantalizing ambiance and my BestFriend enjoys the same…so we are headed to Steam House for some oysters and the excellent rooftop view. I would make sure we head over to Auburn Ave for a little culture, music and dance. Being over there reminds me of the Juke Joint era. I love the city of Atlanta, as a Jersey girl I can appreciate the tall buildings, shops and outside seating restaurants. I appreciate the hustle and bustle of it all, but I also like that i can take a short drive to the most beautiful lakes and parks that bring a certain peace and relaxation.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to say a special Thank you to my Husband (Sherwin Goggins) who is also my business partner for working so hard along side of me. I must Thank my Mother in law ( Marie Goggins) for helping me with the kids while I worked long hours 7 days a week she made sure they ate, they had everything they needed and she made sure of it. To my Sister Friend Loven Veney who moved from California to Atlanta to help me in the restaurant when we were the only employees, she has always believed in me. Also to my brother from another Lamont Hughes who came from South Carolina to help rebuild my bar and dreams. Last but not least my Brother in law Luckie Goggins who gave me that $$ push to make it all happen. To my wonderful staff who has become family…I Love you all so much, thanks for riding with me as long as God got us there is no limits!!!!
