We had the good fortune of connecting with Billie Slum and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Billie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been into fashion. Ever since a child, I’ve always had an eye for putting things together. So I thought what better way to make money than doing what I love.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My brand represents rising above your circumstances. I come from extremely humble beginnings, a lot of which I speak about in my music. So the clothing is just an accent to my life story. My logo is a teddy bear because I consider myself to be a big teddy bear. And if you look closely, you definitely can see my features in the designs. It hasn’t been easy maintaining the brand, lots of highs and lows, but it’s all been worth it. The main lesson I’ve learned throughout this process is consistency. If you remain consistent, even through obstacles, you will rise to the occasion and achieve your goals!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Downtown Macon has pretty much everything you need in one spot. As far as eateries, you have to visit The Rookery! They have the best burgers in town! The rooftop at Amici is one of the best bars to visit for great drinks plus live music. Vibez is a great place to just hangout and catch awesome brunch. If you’re into live band/lounge experience, then I’d recommend Serenity Entertainment Complex.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my family. They’ve supported me and all of my wild ideas plus modeled most of my clothing. They’re the real MVPs!
