We had the good fortune of connecting with Sopheary Phok and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sopheary, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
One of my favorite quotes is from Simon Sinek. “Regardless of WHAT we do in our lives, our WHY—our driving purpose, cause or belief—never changes.”

I wake up every morning before I start my day thinking about my Whys. I have many Whys, but it all comes down to family. What I do everyday is really hard work. Sometimes my days turn in to nights without me realizing. Growing up with little, we we had to work with what we had. I lived in a world where opportunities were rare. Opportunities to do something which I can be passionate about were even rarer. In our community, it’s either you’re in hard labor or in the service business working for someone else and I didn’t want that for my family. I wanted to start a legacy for own family. To show them that there’s a way out of the daily rat race if you keep at it and never give up. My son will grow up knowing that his mother was able to start and run her own business while ignoring the external noises. My Whys have never changed since I start and I feel extremely blessed to be in a field in which I’m passionate about.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Below is from an article written about Sophy’s Nail Lab.

What started out as routine nail care for her diabetic father to what is
now Sophy’s Nail Lab (SNL). It is a trendy and modern nail salon
located in an upscale district of Lawrenceville, GA.

The salon was founded by Sophy Phok in 2018, a local nail technician
with over 15+ years of experience and is considered one of the top nail
technicians in Gwinnett County. She has garnered a positive reputation
for consistently delivering professional and meticulous nail services
while maintaining excellent customer service. Competing with
hundreds of other salons, Sophy has been the recipient of the highly
coveted “Gwinnett’s Best Nail Salon” for 4 consecutive years since
2019 and is looking forward to the 5th one in 2023. She also has over
500+ 5 STAR online reviews and is consistently booked up months in
advance. By always continuing to stress the importance of nail health
and care, keeping up with the latest nail trends and techniques, clients
always come to her for the latest in custom nail designs and
treatments.

After years of suffering symptoms, in Summer of 2021, Sophy was
diagnosed to have an adverse allergic reaction to the acrylic monomer
products that was not only affecting her skin but also her eyesights.
By Fall of 2021, the decision was made to cut off all acrylic products
and only use organic ones. As a result, Sophy’s Nail Lab pride itself in
researching and developing new product lines in order to help others
with the same allergies.

What also sets Sophy’s Nail Lab apart from other salons are the ability
to create styles based off of abstract inspirations/concepts as well as
from images provided by the clients. The salon itself exudes calm and
comfort for the clients wanting to just destress or have some girl talk

time. Sophy’s Nail Lab also provides products created in-house for
nail care such as gold infused cuticle oils, credit card grabbers and
other products made for clients with very long nails. Other products
used are odorless gel polish as well as organic soft gelX extensions.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my late father who started this whole life changing journey. He was diagnosed with diabetes at the tail end of his life and it was always such a pain for him at the Podiatrist. He would constantly complain about how his nails weren’t cut and filed correctly. So every two weeks on the dot, I would give him the mani/pedi special with the most basic of tools we had (nail clipper and filer). He taught me the being patient and enjoy the little things life has to offer and to always be grateful for what we have. I started to realize how much I enjoyed taking care of nails and was constantly feeding my curiosity on how to do things better for my father. This curiosity led me down the road to where I am today.
