Meet Ruchita Newrekar | Commercial Jewelry Designer & Contemporary Jewelry Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ruchita Newrekar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ruchita, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I am gonna say, creativity. My ability to think creatively allows me to conceive fresh and innovative designs that stand out in a saturated market. Creativity enables me to express my individuality and artistic vision. It has always empowered me to convey emotions, narratives, or conceptual ideas through my work, making my jewelry more meaningful and resonant with my customers. In the ever-evolving world of fashion and design, being able to adapt and evolve is crucial. As a creative jewelry artist, I always seem to embrace new trends, experiment with different styles, and cater to changing customer preferences. In a competitive market like jewelry, my creative approach has helped me establish my unique brand identity. It also equips me with the ability to solve design challenges and overcome technical hurdles. I can find imaginative solutions to create intricate structures, address durability issues, or incorporate functionality without compromising aesthetics. I think this problem-solving mindset fosters innovation and helps me stand out as a jewelry artist amongst my peers

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a commercial jewelry designer, I create jewelry pieces with a focus on market demand, trends, and consumer preferences. I collaborate with clients, retailers, or jewelry brands to design and produce pieces that appeal to a wide range of customers. Working with big fashion labels like Tory Burch and Kate Spade New York, I have created designs that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also feasible for mass production. Sometimes, I may use computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed digital models and prototypes, streamlining the manufacturing process. In my role as a contemporary jewelry artist, I explore my artistic vision and push the boundaries of conventional jewelry design. My contemporary jewelry pieces often embody conceptual or narrative elements, going beyond mere adornment. I make jewelry that has its focal point on conveying the effects of human connections. Both aspects of my work complement each other, with the commercial jewelry designs providing financial stability and exposure, while the contemporary jewelry art nurtures my artistic growth and helps me establish a unique artistic voice.
Both the fields, contemporary and commercial, are highly competitive, with many talented artists vying for recognition and opportunities. Standing out among the crowd and establishing a unique artistic voice has been a significant challenge. I have learnt that overcoming that requires perseverance, continuous learning, adaptability, and a strong commitment to my artistic vision. Building a successful career as a creative in the jewelry industry, often involves a combination of artistic talent, business acumen, and effective marketing strategies.
For me, the proudest moments are often tied to my personal achievements and growth.Hearing stories of how my jewelry has touched and impacted others’ lives can be a deeply gratifying and proud moment. Knowing that my creations bring joy, evoke emotions, or serve as symbols of love and connection can be incredibly rewarding. I have transitioned from a hobbyist to a full time professional artist, so creating a unique and meaningful piece that also holds personal significance to someone makes it all worth it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think I’ll start the trip by taking her to explore the historic district of Downtown Atlanta. Visiting landmarks like the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, including his childhood home and the Ebenezer Baptist Church. Breakfast at Flying Biscuit Cafe is a must, you know, for the southern comfort food. I’ll of course, take her to the Ponce City Market, endless options there but I love Botiwalla’s Indian street food. Maybe afterward, we could check out the lively scene at The Regent Cocktail Club for craft cocktails and live music. Sun in my belly would be a great place to grab breakfast the next day while we are exploring the kirk neighborhood and then spend the morning in the Atlanta Botanical Garden. We’ll catch one of their stunning orchid exhibits while we’re there. Enjoy a Broadway show at the Fox theater and then dinner at South City Kitchen Midtown. I like their southern cuisine with a modern twist. The Ocean Voyager exhibit at the Georgia Aquarium should be on every person’s list. Nothing beats that underwater tunnel. We’d head to Proof and Provision for their artisanal cocktails in speakeasy style settings. Throughout the week, I think I’ll include as many breakfast places as I can, like the West Egg Cafe, Thumbs Up Diner, or The General Muir for their bagels. There’s always the Krog Street Market for lunch, maybe at Superica. Oh, and also Fred’s Meat and Bread. Love their fries!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother definitely deserves immense credit for everything I am today. She has been such an unwavering source of love, support, and inspiration throughout my journey! From the earliest moments when I discovered my passion for jewelry, she was there, encouraging my creativity and nurturing my artistic spirit. She recognized my talent and provided the necessary resources and opportunities for me to explore and develop my skills. Whether it was enrolling me in art classes, sourcing materials, or simply being a sounding board for my ideas, she wholeheartedly embraced my dreams and made them her own. Her unconditional love and understanding have provided a sanctuary where I could freely express myself and find solace during times of creative block or self-criticism. Her unwavering confidence in my abilities and her constant reminders of my talent have fueled my motivation, pushing me to exceed my own expectations and reach for new artistic heights.
