We had the good fortune of connecting with Fatima Edmondson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fatima, how do you define success?
Success is internal. It’s whatever brings you personal fulfillment. It’s up to you to define and validate your own success. If you allow other’s to define success for you, you’ll be chasing a void forever.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a seamstress, designer, and the owner of FITTED. by fat. FITTED. by fat is my business where I create custom items. This year I’ve dropped two collections, The LOVERBOY Collection and The Butterfly Effect Collection.

The LOVERBOY Collection is inspired by my relationship with my first love. I’ve been wanting to execute this collection for over a year now. It’s really symbolic to me because this breakup jump started my journey of self-love and finding my purpose. I spent a lot of time supporting and helping someone else figure out their purpose and was neglecting mine. If it wasn’t for that breakup, I probably would have never taken the leap of faith to start my business. The story behind this collection is located on my Instagram (@fittedbyfat).
The Butterfly Effect Collection is a collaboration with my friend, Giovanni Thompson (@blvckprvnt). The Butterfly Effect Collection symbolizes transformation — a shift in confidence, walking in your purpose, and allowing yourself to flourish. The totes in our collection are inspired by his poems, “Sunset Boy” (pg. 53), “Home of a Butterfly” (pg. 3) and “Metamorphosis” (pg. 98) in his book, “Incognito”.
Giovanni has been a close friend since freshman year of college. We’re both in tech, we’ve worked along side each other in our campus organizations, we’ve been on exec boards together, and we’re both passionate about creative entrepreneurship. He has always supported my business since day one and given me the extra motivation I need to push my vision. It was only a matter of time before we collaborated creatively. I’m super grateful to have shared this moment with him.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I like being anywhere that allows me to sit comfortably and have a good time. My go to and favorite area in Atlanta is the Beltline and Old 4th Ward Park. You can set your own vibe out there. My friends recently put me on to the Revery. I enjoyed my time there because they play my type of music. Like how often do you hear Saturday Love at a function full of people under the age of 30? Lit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give my biggest shoutout to God, for sure. We’ve grown so much closer over these past few months, especially during my last semester of college. After graduation, I had the realization that I’m living in my prayers. I literally have all of this written out in my notes and journals from years ago. It’s mind-blowing to wrap my head around. Nonetheless, I’m grateful for every season He puts me through.
