We had the good fortune of connecting with Yoko Kaetsu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yoko, why did you pursue a creative career?
It’s influenced by my mom. On her free time, she loves to paint and design clothes, I think that growing up in that environment led me to go on a creative path. As a kid, I loved to draw, but once I got older I discovered my love for photography and from there I went into graphic design and now motion graphics.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I definitely had my doubts while I was studying whether it was the right path or not. But I also couldn’t really imagine myself doing any other thing apart from design. So I decided to push through. I think everyone goes through their own set of challenges in life and that is what helps you grow as an individual. I believe that constantly challenging yourself is what lets you progress in life.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a big foodie and outdoor person. I’d love to show them around San Diego all the beautiful beaches and parks. But also all the amazing food that is out here.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank my family for always supporting me in every aspect of my path. My professors from my undergraduate and graduate programs, for providing me all the tools that I needed but also allowing me to experience how a workplace environment functions
