We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Logan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always been into everything fashion even as a young child. I always was looking at clothes and hair. Back then my Mom would always take me on these shopping bus trips. I enjoyed going to different cities and looking for different clothes that we did not have here in the city. I remember asking my Mom to put me in modeling classes and of course she did. I enjoyed every minute of it. When I graduated high school I dreamed of owning my own Beauty Salon but I also wanted to attend a four year college and pledge to a sorority. My senior year rolled around and I feel like I didn’t get the help I needed in order to get into college. So I decided to go to Cosmetology School. During that time I got a real feel of what it would be like to be doing hair all day. Once I made it to the floor and was actually doing clients I was really good at it. So good they used to be lined up at the door waiting to get their hair done by me. There was a time my teacher was so frustrated because when it was time for the school to close I still had clients to finish. Crazy thing is that’s when I decided like this is not what I want to do every single day. So then I decided to just focus on getting a Bachelor’s Degree so that I could get a good paying job. Let’s just say life took over and I end up having my son Brandon Logan. Being a single mom I put all my focus on making sure I could provide for him and that he has everything that he needed. My goal was to make sure he was better than me. I wanted him to be able to experience the college life that I didn’t get to experience. In 2017 I lost my sister Trona Logan to ALS. This was a horrible time for me because she was one of my biggest supporters. Anything that I said I wanted to do she always pushed me to do better. One thing that she asked of me was to finish getting my Bachelors Degree so in 2018 I decided to do just that. I end up graduating with my degree in 2019. At this time I still was trying to decide what I really wanted to do and what really was going to make me happy. So at the beginning of the pandemic I decided to start my own business The Style In You Collection. I launched my website June of 2020.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Style In You Collection is an online boutique. I provide comfortable, classy, and affordable fashion for the everyday woman ranging from sizes S-3XL. I love to provide cute and comfy clothes for the women that’s always on the go and still want to look cute. But then I also provide fashion for the women that needs a cute night out on the town outfit. I want to make women not only look good but feel good about themselves. My goal is to be known Worldwide so social media has become my best friend through this process. I have been able to ship to at least 30 states and have reached as far as the Virgin Islands. Learning how to grow and expand my business is my biggest challenge along with funding. I started and still continue to run my business out of pocket. I realize now that having all your business affairs in order is key to running a successful business.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That’s a tough question because the thing I enjoy is going out to eat. Just give me a good Mexican Restaurant with great food and drinks and I’m good. I really don’t hang out too much in the city. But I love trying new restaurants and shopping of course. So it would depend on what they what to do and see when they are here.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I give credit to my family. My parents have always stood beside me with every decision I have made good or bad. They have never given up on me and I love them for that. When we lost my sister my son, nieces, and nephew came up with the slogan “LOGAN STRONG”. That represented our family very well. During the 5 years my sister was fighting ALS we stood strong and came together to get through everything. No matter what we have always stuck together.
