Meet Adrienne Herron | Fragrance & Skincare Lover

We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrienne Herron and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adrienne, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I honestly didn’t start out with the idea of becoming a business. I have been making my own body concoctions for years. Both my oldest niece and I have sensitive skin, so I just wanted to make something that had good ingredients but was also fun and still smelled good. For a long time, my body butter was something that I made for myself, my niece, and other close friends and family. But after receiving much praise and many testimonies from my loved ones, I was encouraged to share my creations with more people, and thus, Nua Baa Fifi was born!

What should our readers know about your business?
My business journey has been a series of happy accidents, hard work, and a supportive set of loved ones. Going from just making body butter in my kitchen, with no recipe, or plan, to setting up a business was a slight learning curve. But I was determined to always do it in a way that I would not lose my passion. So, if that means trying new things to keep things fresh for me or taking a break and not doing business activities, that is what I do. I never want to lose my passion. So for me, balance is my number one priority, and when I have that, my highs are not too high and my lows are never defeating. I have learned to always trust my gut, to be willing to fail and that every day is a new beginning. I want people to know that I would never sell anything that I wouldn’t put on my own body or give to the people who mean the world to me. I also would want them to know that as long as you are here it’s never too late to dream.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love to cook and bake and I’m also pretty introverted so for me when my family visits a trip to the Dekalb Farmer’s market followed by homecooked meals are always the go-to. I do also love some good wine and music so if it’s Jazz in the park at Piedmont, Decatur Wine Festival, or City Winery, we are all excited for a little wine down LOL. Seeing a show at the Fox Theater is always a wonderful experience, we never miss Alvin Ailey in February. When it’s nice we can always hop over to Highland Bakery, grab some food to go, get some blankets, and picnic at Piedmont Park until the sun goes down. Quality time with my loved ones can make anywhere exciting.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and friends have always supported me in everything I do. Even my business name is from my “little sister” Nana. My sweet Ghanaian sister, Nana, has called me nua baa Fifi for as long as we’ve known each other, “nua baa” meaning “sister” in Twi. Naturally, when I started this journey, the name – Nua Baa Fifi – was the only name appropriate to crown my company and carry on the legacy of love, care, and joy in which it was born. My family has ALWAYS held me down and lifted me up. With God and my Family, I never lose.
