We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiyonna Griffin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiyonna, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I feel as though taking risks are essential to a successful life, if you know how to handle them properly. Without risks you won’t know what you truly enjoy or dislike because you don’t have the experience behind you. I know taking risks are important because I’ve taken a number of them, whether it was dealing with my career or simply personally. I wouldn’t be where I am today without taking the risks that I did and I can say that I don’t regret anything that I’ve done. Yes you are gonna make mistakes and yes you are gonna fail but I say always look at the brighter side of things. That risk can either be a lesson or blessing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been doing makeup on myself since 10th grade in high school, even before that I’ve been doing my eyebrows since 7th grade. I never thought about taking makeup seriously until I graduated high school. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I got accepted into 5 colleges when I graduated but college just was not calling my name. I decided one day in June of 2022 to apply to a makeup school, which was Health and Style Institute, to pursue a makeup career professionally. I did learn a lot about makeup products, techniques, colors, applications, influencers, myself and how others move. It was not the most ideal move though due to the lack of awareness, and support that was given out, and that was the challenge. It taught me to depend on myself even more. I’m grateful for that journey though, I gained so much confidence. It’s always going to be ups and downs in everything.
I enjoy doing makeup on myself and others and the feeling you receive afterwards especially if they love their makeup look is so fulfilling. I specialize in natural makeup looks as well as eyelash tab extensions, they set me apart because I enjoy enhancing the natural features of the face, not completely altering anything but making them more noticeable, that extra pop can go a long way!
I learned how to edit so I combined my two most enjoyable skills which influenced me to create a YouTube channel by, Yonna Amauri, and social media platforms by, Yonna Amauri and Dolledbyamauri, which is my makeup page. I just enjoy the beauty of life, so I became a beauty influencer.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Now I am a homebody, I love a good vibe at home. I’d cook a nice meal, bake some cookies and have a movie night but of course If my bestie was visiting me here in Atlanta I would first show them around Little Five Points since it’s one of my favorite spots, the flow is amazing. We’d visit Rag-O-Rama to go thrifting then we’d go get pizza at Little Azio, their not in Little Five Points exactly but I do love their pizza. The next day we would go downtown to have dinner with hookah at Anatolia and visit the aquarium and/or the zoo, I love all animals, sea and land. Then I would take them to Piedmont park to have a nice picnic, listen to to some music and write in our notebooks. Last, we’d visit iFly to go indoor skydiving, to have some fun.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to start by thanking God, The Most High. I’ve gotten everything from spirit. The strength, love, and the ability to find myself all came from spirit. I also have a very close friend from high school that I would like to leave anonymous, he has helped me through the lowest levels of my life, he’s never left my side and my entire life changed in a beautiful way with help from him.
