We had the good fortune of connecting with Dawn Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dawn, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
Last year 2022, I walked away from a successful thirty year career as a hairstylist. I completely stepped out on faith wanting mire for my life and ready for more. I wasn’t exactly sure what that looked like, however I trusted God with my decision.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been a stylist for over 30 years and a business owner for 23 years. My goal as was to never work for anyone other than myself, therefore I had to do invest into myself. I invested my time and money into my craft. If you want to be the best you had to be all in. I made the choice to be all in when I had my son. Failure was not an option. I learned business the hard way. It was hard to gain mentorship and support from people in my industry, so I made a lot of mistakes that cost me way too much. However, I learned from my mistakes and use those lessons to educate other industry professionals looking to grow a successful career as a stylist and entrepreneur.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my husband Kelly for always having my back. The last 7 years of my career has been personal for me. I would fly all over for training and education, and every time he would book the flights, hotels and travel with me each and every time. When I shared with him last year that I was completely walking away from my career and moving in another direction, his response was “do it.” He not only supports my dreams, I tell him my vision and he creates the reality for me thrive in. He believes in me when I sometimes doubt myself. My ideas are never too crazy for him. I have absolutely no reason to look back, we press forward together.
