We had the good fortune of connecting with Diego Silva and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diego, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When you don’t feel a sense of risk in what you’re doing, it’s likely because you’re not pushing yourself to try something new or venture outside of your comfort zone. Staying within your comfort zone can limit personal growth, so taking risks and embracing opportunities for learning, even if it means the possibility of failure, is crucial for personal development.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a passionate filmmaker, I am dedicated to creating stories that entertain and engage audiences.
“Hunting Souls,” my feature film, is my greatest accomplishment to date. It was a challenging project, as I began filming just two days before the world shut down due to a pandemic. The film serves as a metaphor for life, as the main character, played by Aiden Turner, struggles to understand and overcome the unseen demons destroying his family. Through this metaphor, the film encourages viewers to reflect on their own personal struggles and the power of perspective in finding solutions. The film is available on Amazon Prime, AppleTV, Vudu, and Google Play since April 4th last year. I really hope you enjoy, it was made with all my heart.
The production of “Hunting Souls” during the pandemic was an incredibly difficult task. Due to multiple shutdowns, we faced financial constraints and had to make cutbacks on departments. My wife and I took on additional responsibilities to keep the project moving forward. Despite the challenges, I was able to complete post-production, including editing, color grading, visual effects, and marketing, on my own.
The pandemic presented many obstacles during the production of “Hunting Souls,” but I found that it taught me to be adaptable and to let go of things that were out of my control. To overcome the challenges, I had to think creatively and use my background in Mechatronic Engineering to my advantage. I am grateful to the cast and crew for their perseverance and support, especially my wife who, despite just giving birth, was a constant presence throughout the production. It’s important to note that being a filmmaker is not an easy task and it’s not just about the end product, but the hard work and dedication put into the process. People think filmmaking is easy. I have earned 9 Emmys in only 6 years of being in the United States. They don’t see the life time of work that has lead up to the awards.
Guillermo Del Toro once said, “for each line on my Imdb I gave 4 years of my life.” So it hasn’t been easy but I enjoy the challenge.
In addition to my work as a filmmaker, I also serve as the Creative Director of MundoNow. Our mission is to help people of all backgrounds understand and appreciate the beauty of this country, and how our culture can contribute to making America a place where all cultures are welcomed and barriers are broken down.
I am deeply grateful for the support and opportunities I have received in America. I met my wife here and recently became a citizen, fulfilling my part of the American Dream. Although my roots are in South America, I feel a strong sense of belonging in Atlanta and am thankful to be a part of this community.
