We had the good fortune of connecting with Desirae L. Benson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Desirae L., career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
For me, the end does not exist. I liken it to the proverbial, “ladder of success”…it just keeps going and going. So, instead of saying what I’d like to see happen by the end of my career, I would personally rephrase that to convey what I would like to see happen as I continue to grow, thrive, and create more opportunities to be successful. I thrive off the energy and the flow of putting a plan in motion and watching it all come together in a beautiful way.
As a publicist, I get to create, and creativity is an expansive thing. One idea takes you to another, and another, and another. It’s a beautiful process and it vibes well with my personality. Having clients who smile at the end of the day from something I have said, done, or something I am planning for them is so rewarding.
Every experience from my past has taught me many things that I can pull from in the here and now. I am a strong believer in manifestation, and in order to attain success, growth, or any of the other goals that I have put my focus on, visualization and purposeful thinking have been at the forefront of my thought process.
Being a publicist allows me to completely submerge myself in the moment. Moments create history, and history creates longevity. I make it a habit to cheer for myself. I know where I’ve been, I know where I’m at, and I am very clear about where I am going. I’m grateful for it all, and I welcome the guidance of the universe to steer me in the best direction to give me the desires of my heart.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have learned so many lessons along the way. The beautiful thing about a journey, is the learning process. It is what has fostered a tremendous amount of growth for me. There are challenges and then there are triumphs. I’ve been able to get over the tough times while letting the goodness in by using a few key elements. I break it down in the following way:
Patience: This was tough and required me to go through some hard lessons. I learned that the more you try to rush things before their time, the easier it is to become depleted. It’s like trying to make a fire without wood, paper, matches, etc. You may have one of the components, but not all. So, to make up where you are lacking, one ends up spinning their wheels to compensate and this can be exhausting. Over time I learned to be more strategic and patient with myself and others. Not only did this lessen my stress, but it also gave me more insight into what needed to be done for myself and my clients.
Belief: This is self-explanatory. Nothing grows without the power of belief. That which you focus your energy on becomes powerful and abundant if you believe it will.
Consistency: The more I practiced what I preached and made it a point to prioritize what was important to me, the energy began to shift from good to great. This is true when it comes to working with my clients also. Although each person is different and may have different needs…being consistent in creating magic for them is a must.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a great question! You know what I would more than likely do? Tell them to leave their bags packed because we are getting ready to hop on a plane to Thailand…one of my favorite countries. My favorite city there is Bangkok…it’s bustling with people from all nationalities. There is always something exciting going on no matter the time. Culturally, it is a hub for all things creative, just my style. Any “Best friend” of mine would more than likely have similar taste and interests, so the trip would be a win-win! The last time I went there, I was there alone. It would awesome to have a dear friend come along.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This interview is dedicated to my parents, who at an early age, opened up an abundance of opportunities for me to live all around the world, and helped to foster cultural awareness, global curiosity, and a love for people from all walks of life. Their guidance helped me develop the mindset of excellence. That in turn, enabled me to provide my own son with that same kind of love and support I was given as a child. My parents were always by biggest cheerleaders and wanted to see me win in all my endeavors. Their unconditional love and never-ending support is something I will always cherish.
