We had the good fortune of connecting with Joey Webster and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joey, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I began balloon twisting in restaurants in high school and quickly realized the income generating potential that came along with the low time commitment involved. With the help of HOPE scholarship and my new found hobby, I worked my way through college without student loans, teaching my friends about balloon twisting along the way. Post-college, I decided to take the business more seriously and hired a team of 20-30 contractors to fill balloon twisting services in local Atlanta area restaurants. We began offering face painting, event rentals, and balloon decorating services with the hopes of increasing our customer reach in different cities and expanding our services offered. By the end of 2022, we had worked in nine different states for thousands of companies and families and we continually look for new opportunities to provide creative, custom balloon designs and event services at affordable prices.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
If someone you knew wanted to start a balloon business, you might think they were full of hot air. Unsurprisingly, some aspects of our work blow, but regardless, we do our best to provide high quality, custom balloon designs with no strings attached. Our balloon decoration sector of the business has been popping post-pandemic! We work with many large corporations like Home Depot, Amazon, Target, Microsoft, Salesforce, etc.; University systems like Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, Emory, etc.; K-12 systems; as well as local families/small businesses for special occasions like baby showers, birthdays, graduations, religious celebrations, grand openings, holiday festivities, and more. We do our best to keep our prices affordable no matter how inflation is affecting the economy.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For the outdoor adventurer, you’ve gotta shoot the hooch, walk/bike/rollerblade/e-scooter/run along the Atlanta Belt Line, and hike to the top of one of Atlanta’s nearby mountains: Stone Mountain, Kennesaw Mountain, or Sawnee Mountain.
For foodies, almost everything along the Atlanta BeltLine will knock your socks off.
Drinkers: Ormsby’s, The Painted Duck, and Dark Horse are MUST SEE bars. These bars have so many fun engaging games that are sure to keep you entertained for hours by yourself, with close company, or someone new. There are also many great breweries around like Monday Night, Orpheus, and Sweetwater to name a few.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My business doubled when I met my entrepreneur friend and tech guru, Pablo. He taught me how to build a website, run google ads, and seamlessly integrate necessary components to scale a good idea. As an entrepreneur himself, his business ventures continually inspire me to learn more, challenge myself, and think creatively about problem solving. My business would not be functioning after the pandemic shutdown or be where it is today without Pablo.
