We had the good fortune of connecting with Karizmah Wall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karizmah, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Since I was 7 my life was all about the arts. Ive always known that I was going to be an entertainer.. I am passionate about it and it lights me up and others around me. After high school despite my family’s plan for me to go to college, I wanted to be a professional dancer. Unfortunately, I didnt have much control over my life then. I went and got a 4 year degree in criminal justice and was extremely unhappy. After graduation I decided to start dancing again and to pursue a career in dance . I begin to regain interest in music , theatre and modeling. From there I am the happiest Ive been in a while. Being able to work in the arts has exposed me to different kinds of people , places and opportunities that I would have never seen if I stayed in my degree field .

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My main talent is dance, but I sing , write music , act, model and am a makeup artist as well. Last year I produced, co-directed , and starred in my own short dance film using all “plus size” dancers . Kaizmatik artistry is based on talent and not on what or who is trending. We do not discriminate based on anything. I believe that the entertainment industry is full of passionless robots doing whatever it take to make a coin. I like to bring spotlight on those whose art speaks to you when you see or hear it no matter if they fit society’s views on what entertainers should look Like .
I got where I am today by being my biggest advocate. Having a support system is helpful but lets be real alot of strangers have been more supportive than people who know me and that’s something a lot of us can relate to. Consistency , passion, and discipline is the key to being successful . It is not an easy path and to be honest in this industry not as rewarding as you think but if you truly love something , doing it is reward enough.
Some challenges I have faced are being a dancer and not fitting the description of what the casting director is looking for . I was never “big enough” for the plus size castings but not “small enough” for non plus size castings. Just last year , I was deep in mental illness and depression and my biggest hater was myself . Self doubt filled my head and my heart and while , I was still working towards my goals , I wasn’t putting in 100% .
On this journey I have learned that, you cant do this alone, but everybody can’t go to the top with you either . Work with like
minded people who can bring something to the table to elevate your brand . Lastly , be prepared to work harder than you ever have, prepare to be disappointed sometimes, if you’re not prepared for the rainy days there will be no growth . Also document every step so you can look
Back and remind yourself where you can from .
The world should know about Karizmatik artistry that if one thing I do impacts someone in a positive way , if i can save or
Change a life with my art… that would have been enough because at the end of the day my art has saved me so many times it would be selfish to gate keep that.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First we have to hit up a show or vogue ball . Atl dancers are always having show cases and the vogue scene runs very deep here . Maybe brunch at The Flying Biscuit in midtown , very low key and drinks at cirque daiquiri bar .
If Lyrik London is having a dance class we definitely need to experience that or a pole class at pink poles .

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this to all of the entertainers, dancers, artists etc. Especially those of us that have other things working against us like our shape, size, or skin color. Rejections has been my greatest mentor. In this industry you see so many of the same people winning , and while i’ll always clap for those people its time to see different shapes, sizes, and sexes doing well as artist . As much rejection as most of us have experienced a lot of people fold , but for me it was motivation to prove to myself that I am just , if not more qualified to what I love no matter what I look like .
