We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcus Kole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcus, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I had owned a clothing company and just sold it to INKED magazine. My wife suggested I start doing photography for other companies since I did the images for my apparel line. I brought my style of photography to other clients and it took off organically.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from other product photographers is my style. Some people shoot the safe way which is fine but boring to me. I bring my vision to every shoot we work on regardless of budgets. I love capturing colors and making images pop while always making sure the product is most important thing in the picture.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my locations are secret. I love colorful backgrounds and many people think I am in LA area even though all shoots are done in Atlanta. I used to shoot in Cabbagetown a lot but that became crowded with photographers. Honestly, outside the perimeter is where most shoots are done now. If I had to pick one wall for someone to see while visiting, it would be City Antiques & Interior Arts in Roswell. The owner is super nice and the walls are amazing for pictures.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife deserves all the credit. After selling my clothing company, I was trying to figure out the next thing to create. She suggested I do photography since my style is what made the apparel line successful. She was right like always. I also want to thank my friends for being “models” at all my shoots. Some of them had never done a photoshoot before but now they are on websites all over the world and hundreds of Amazon listings.
