We had the good fortune of connecting with Shi’Onya Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shi’Onya, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Being a Female DJ in this industry presents me with very unique way to impact my community and the world through music! We’ve heard so many times that “music brings us together” and honestly, it really does! Sometimes all it takes is one song that can bring the entire room together…bring the whole block together or literally cause the world to stop and come together even if only for a moment, you know? You really get the opportunity to put smiles on faces, bring joy (and sometimes peace), spread love, take listeners on a journey (sometimes back to a very nostalgic place in life) and provide a stress-free place of freedom.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like this one lol. I’m really proud of being a FEMALE DJ! I’d be lying if I said that being a DJ is easy because it’s NOT! But being a female DJ in the industry is not for the weak, ok?! You have to show and prove 100 times over even before you walk in the room…so I’m very proud to be in the number of some amazing Female DJ’s out here.

If I had to pick something that sets me a part from others, I’d have to choose the gift of really wanting to see joy in others. Imagine going somewhere, anywhere, feeling weighed down and by the time you leave you’re lifted…you feel joy…you’re smiling for real this time…….that’s my gift and I LOVE it. To be honest, it started with me first. Music has taken me through some really rough moments and times in life so my goal is to help provide the same relief and safe space that it did for me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My Bestfriend visiting for a week?? Oh, we’re LIT! (lol) We’d have to hit a few food spots like Eddie’s Calzone, UNO’s, Slice of Columbia and Liberty on the Lake. Karaoke would be on our to-do list along with hitting a few stores and hookah spots. We would also make time for “still” moments in the park or beside water to just be.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Ah man, YES! First, I have to give a shout-out to my favorite guy, GOD! I’d literally be nothing without Him; shoot..I AM nothing without Him, real talk.

I’d also like to shoutout DJ Bang1 – thank you for giving me my very first lesson and the courage to get out there. I salute you. To 7Sunday (@7SundayLive) and Hylo Art (@hyloartent), thank you for trusting me and allowing me to cultivate and curate a sound/vibe for each and every event or show. (I don’t take it lightly 💪🏽). To everyone who believed in me even before I believed in myself – THANK YOU! My family – THANK YOU! My Partner – THANK YOU for not letting up when you see greatness. 💙
