We had the good fortune of connecting with Sultan Salako and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sultan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Actually I’m not going to deny it The first thing I thought about was making money at first but it went a long way more than money.
My family were like my foundational mentors always pushing me towards my things
So there was this day I said to myself I’m not too young to be influential, rich,a man of dignity or a respected someone in the society.so I began self development and on and on I began building on myself went for a couple of trainings. Before I knew it I got calls from people that I don’t even know before and boom the confidence is there, the zeal to grow more begins and money was not even a priority again despite the fact that I’m still a student I have been able to manage my business my academics.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am sultan. But am being fondly called as SULTANI it’s like calling the name in a stressed pattern. So my business page Sultanimakeovers and Sultani_gele
Originated from my name.
I could remember I started in the year 2018 as an amateur who knows nothing because as at that time I just graduated from senior secondary school. I was not interested in learning anything at first but I always knew a part of me is into fashion and entertainment. So I was about to go register for fashion designing when my mum was struggling with her head tie (gele) so I decided to help her twist it cause I have seen the way it looks on people so, I tried my best and it came out well. Only for my mum to come back from where she went to and said she changed her mind that I was going to learn how to tie it professionally at first I was reluctant cause a guy doing a lady’s job is weird at that time to me.
So I was working on self development at first watching YouTube videos trying out all I see there then I developed interest in makeup so that was how my journey as a makeup And gele Artist started.
I’m so proud of myself today cause I’m making income as a student and I also proud to have learnt something at a young age when time was still on my side ,so for a professional course I went to learn more from Auntie Kemi the ceo of TA_craft makeover and I went for some other upgrade classes and friends and family supporting me I was so sure one day I will be at the top.
Was it easy ? Ummm not really easy cause you get to be called a lot of annoying names cause you’re a guy and you do makeup. all I just kept saying to myself was that I could be who I want to be, I don’t have to listen to anything from anyone. I’ve just got to get to the top.
A lot of lessons learnt Is never let people words get to you so they won’t hurt your feelings.
Just like what they say “consistency is key “
I never gave up on myself and my dreams, yeah someday I’m going to be at the top of my dreams .
I want the world to know that Sultanimakeovers and Sultani_gele is going to be at the top one day and they will remember I said it .
