We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Parisi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julia, what do you attribute your success to?
As we are a sister-owned and operated business, the success of our brand comes from the support we can offer each other at every stage of creation. There are times when commission requests take over the workload and the day-to-day operations fall by the wayside, when we put our heads together and prioritise creativity whilst balancing the workload between our niche talents, we become a smooth sailing machine.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I paint various styles as I have a love for so many types of art and want to explore my own personal interpretation of each style by stepping out of the box. I have a lot of love for painting bodies as a woman who is sharing the empowerment of the female bodice, and from there I began to have a go at women’s faces to portray each individual beauty and facial expression. The abstract style has become a recent addition to my repertoire as it has allowed me to explore the art of painting in a whole new way. Each style has my personal touch of similar brushstrokes, colour palettes and line works. I think it’s visible through all my work that there is a signature element of my artistic vision whilst also allowing each piece to be unique in its own way.

I find the human body so beautiful and love how each of us has a unique way of presenting and representing ourselves with such beauty. My inspiration to paint these pieces is simply to capture the unique and varying emotions of each persona. Each day that I paint, I let the piece guide me and don’t have a set structure or vision for each piece as it lets the focal point of each artwork come naturally. A lot of this is trial and error and by using different techniques and experimenting, I find that my creative process aligns with my approach to life more fluidly, letting things happen as they come. I get the best response from artworks that I have fun with and use new experimental techniques which gives me a great amount of satisfaction.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’re based in Sydney, Australia, and whenever we get a moment to explore, the first thing would be to visit the community-centric suburbs and people-watch at a cafe. Everyone has an interesting way they walk or talk or order their coffee and because Australia is so multicultural you can get a sense of their personality and identity in these daily interactions with them!

Sydney also has some of the greatest exhibitions and eateries in the city. Opera Bar for lunch, Harbour bridge walk during the sunset, darling harbour walk in the evening, gelato on every second corner and (of course) the must-have Macca’s indulgent snack to finish off the night.

Sydney has a way of finding obscure places and making them focal points within the community, so whenever there’s a farmers market or pop-up stall, they’re a go-to weekend adventure wherever they end up being whether that’s bondi, coogee, Paddington, the places are endless.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our parents have to be the driving force of what made Julia Parisi Art what it is today. We started with humble beginnings of creating small art pieces for their friends as gifts and with the constant support and encouragement that came from them, we were able to legitimise this business into the eCommerce platform it is today. Can’t forget to thank them for all the running around they do for us and the hours of driving to and from markets, helping set up, pack down and pep talks.
