We had the good fortune of connecting with Nyala Chamberlain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nyala, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
The reason behind me choosing to pursue makeup as a career is simple — it genuinely makes me happy!

I’ve been doing makeup for as long as I can remember, and it’s basically a form of therapy for me at this point. I’ve always had an artistic/creative background, and I’ve always been into all things beautiful and glamorous…so it was only right that I combine my two favorite things and build a career around it!

I also love the fluidity and unpredictability of it all. Doing the same thing everyday can become dull and boring, but with the creative path I’ve chosen, I’m able to be as adventurous and innovative as I please.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Something that sets me apart from others, is my genuine passion and dedication to my craft. Makeup is truly fascinating to me and I’m always striving to sharpen my skills and knowledge to provide the best experience and artistry that I can offer!

I am most proud of how far I’ve come. I literally started with nothing—I used to steal eyeshadow palettes and lipsticks from my mom and older sister, and make my clients bring their own foundations and brushes because I couldn’t afford to provide them in my own kit.

I’m not exactly where I want to be yet, but I am so grateful and blessed for the growth and progress that I’ve made over the years. In the earlier stages of my career, I used to struggle with comparing myself to other artists and being sad that I wasn’t further ahead like them…but I later learned that this is something all artists experience and it’s just part of the process. I’m happy to say that I’m finally at peace with the fact that things will happen when they’re supposed to, and anything that is for me will never miss me.

Something I want the world to know about me is that I love and cherish what I do. Makeup is my passion, my calling, my purpose. I didn’t just randomly pick up a makeup brush one day and decide to make it my side hustle, I’ve been working towards this dream since I was 15 years old and money wasn’t even an aspect. Anyone who knows me knows how deep it goes for me. I can’t say I have one specific ultimate goal in mind, because the sky is the limit and I want to take it as far as I can. And I just hope that I’m able to positively impact and inspire someone else to follow their dreams and do what makes them happy, no matter how difficult or impossible it may seem!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For food, definitely OSHA Thai Sushi Galleria, 8 Sushi, and Just Love Cafe

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my Shoutout to my family, who always supported, encouraged, and nurtured the artist within me.
