We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlotte Swann and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charlotte, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

The main reason for founding this production company was driven by my son, Derrek who recently passed away in 2021 at the age of 30. Derrek was an exuberant, adventurous, animated young man who chased after challenges. His mental disorders had plagued him for years without being diagnosed. Ultimately, he succumbed to them. I am an advocate for mental health and will create short films, tv series, and feature films based on the many mental disorders that my son suffered from. This is my why! This is for him! As we create, develop, and explore the lives of our characters, UPP will demonstrate that psychology, therapy, and counseling are important tools we should use in order to lead a happy, healthy, and fulfilled existence.

Strategic Storytelling is what sets us apart.

Our mission at Uncharted Path Productions is to explore people’s authentic connectedness in original, uncharted, uncommon ways through books, screenplays, and films. In order to achieve this, we listen to the creators and writers allowing and encouraging them to come up with storylines and characters that appeal to multiple audiences.

A mental health-themed exhibition of visual storytelling will be created and featured by Uncharted Path Productions. What does this mean? There will be a focus on creating characters who struggle with or suffer from psychological disorders in our scripts, books, and stage plays.

Our hope is that this will lead to diverse and creative approaches to storytelling that are used in humanitarian content to exemplify and distinguish truehearted inclusiveness.

Creating original visual art in many genres and formats has been our primary focus since the beginning of the company. Our vision is to provide captivating, original, and dynamic visual writings through constant innovation.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Here in DC, MD, and VA, there are many different places to visit and the itinerary could turn into a long and busy weekend. From the monuments to many diverse menu selections from all over the world to the beautiful fall colors in the Shenandoah Park, would be most fun and interesting.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a few who have been with me from the beginning, pushing me along to where I am presently.
