Meet Leeyah Azhané | Cosmetologist & Professional Makeup Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Leeyah Azhané and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leeyah, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It chose me. I knew I was meant to be on a creative career path because in school nothing ever truly intrigued me. I got by and kept up with my work, meanwhile when I was at home or outside of school I was always focused on hair, makeup, anything and everything beauty. That’s what always lit my fire and made me happy. It was always a passion of mine from a young age. I knew what I wanted to do right out of highschool. I knew what I wanted to be as soon as I graduated. It was always hard for me to focus. I’m a very personable and outgoing person, so it was only right I was in a career where I could show how creative I was and also show my personality. I always say when you look good, you feel good. When you feel good, everything around you goes good. You show up more confident everytime. That’s how I wanted all women to feel.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
To start I do hair, makeup, lash extensions, and full body waxing. I’ve also been getting into education and teaching as well. I love sharing with others how they can start on this path and how much motivation is needed to stay focused. I’m always here to help. I’m most proud that I have not given up after all this time. It is easy to get discouraged in this day and age where everyone is doing the same thing as you. I’m still learning myself to focus on my journey and mine alone. It hasn’t been easy for me, as i’ve said before there are a lot of obstacles just in life that can easily get in the way. You have to have tunnel vision and focus on your craft, your purpose, and what made you get into that career in the first place. At 25 I easily doubt myself and feel like i’m running out of time when i’m NOT! I have ample amount of time, it’s alot about the hardwork that gets put into what you really love to do. Every woman deserves to find a stylist, makeup artist, etc that makes them feel the most beautiful and have a great relationship with. I want to be that one to give all my clients that. It’s about more than just doing the work, it’s about building RELATIONSHIPS. Not only with clients, but with other creatives as well. I currently work with some of the biggest makeup companies like MAC and Charlotte Tilbury and am excited to continue along this journey, and walk through all the doors meant for me!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ha! Atlanta is known for a good time right! This is a trick question because if I could I would stop at every shop, lounge, brunch spot, adult arcades I come across everyday ha!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are multiple people who have helped me on this journey. I’ll start with Aveda Institute. They really helped jumpstart my career for me. Taught me professionalism and everything I needed to know to pass my state board and get my license. My friends Redd and Tanya, was right along with me on that journey. We all went to school together. To this day I admire they work they do and the drive/hustle they have. The 3 of us clicked with each other instantly. There are a lot of others involved I want to shoutout but it would be too many! As far as helping me along that first step in Aveda, those 2 definitely helped a lot.
